RANCHO CORDOVA — A man was airlifted to a local hospital Tuesday afternoon after rescue crews pulled him from the American River following an hourlong search near Hagan Community Park and Ancil Hoffman Park.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded at approximately 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, after receiving a report of a person in the water in the Rancho Cordova area.
According to Metro Fire, witnesses reported seeing a man floating downstream in the American River, prompting crews to begin searching the water and surrounding area.
After approximately an hour of searching, crews located the man and pulled him from the river. He was subsequently transported by air ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities had not released information about the man’s condition as of Tuesday evening. Additional details about how he entered the river or what circumstances led to the incident were also not immediately available.
The rescue occurred along the American River near Hagan Community Park and Ancil Hoffman Park, a popular stretch of the river and American River Parkway used for swimming, rafting and other recreational activities.
Following the rescue, Metro Fire reminded those recreating along the American River about the importance of wearing a life jacket.
“Metro Fire reminds everyone recreating in or near the American River to always wear a properly fitted life jacket,” the agency shared. “Moving water can be cold, swift and unpredictable, and a life jacket provides critical protection in an emergency.”
No additional information about the incident was immediately released.
