A neighborhood intersection in Folsom has been shut down in both directions after a storm-related sinkhole opened in the Lexington Hills area, prompting an immediate response from city crews.
The closure is in effect at the intersection of Prewett Drive and Newington Drive, where a large section of pavement gave way following recent weather conditions. According to the City of Folsom, the roadway remains closed in both directions as crews assess the damage and begin repair efforts.

City officials said detours are currently in place while crews install barriers and evaluate the extent of the sinkhole. Work is already underway at the site, but the roadway is expected to remain closed until further notice as conditions allow for safe and effective repairs.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and plan for additional travel time, especially with school back in session and increased morning traffic expected. The closure impacts neighborhood traffic flow, likely creating congestion on surrounding streets as drivers seek alternate routes.
Severe thunderstorms continued to move through the region Sunday morning and into the early afternoon, creating additional hazards across the community, including downed trees and power lines. The dangerous weather also forced the cancellation of nearby community efforts at Castle Park, where rebuild work was called off due to unsafe conditions. (See related Folsom Times coverage.)
The full scope of the damage and a timeline for reopening have not yet been released. City crews continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates as repair work progresses.
Residents are encouraged to use caution when traveling near the area and follow all posted detours while crews work to address the situation safely.
