Smooth Brains, Officer Dick, Wake the Beast, Hate Primer, Gentlemen of Tragedy and DJ Bunz headline two nights of live music in Orangevale
ORANGEVALE — From the adrenaline-fueled sounds of nu-metal and Tony Hawk Pro Skater anthems to the thunderous punch of hard rock and metal, The Boardwalk is turning up the volume this weekend with two nights of high-energy performances designed for fans ready to relive loud eras of music history.
Fridaynight brings a nostalgic collision of heavy riffs and skatepark-era memories asSmooth Brainsteams up withOfficer Dickfor a full evening centered around nu-metal favorites and songs made famous through the legendary Tony Hawk Pro Skater video game soundtrack series.
Smooth Brains has quickly built a reputation for delivering explosive live performances packed with crowd interaction, heavy grooves and nonstop energy. Formed in 2020, the four-piece band has developed a growing regional following by leaning into the aggressive sound and unapologetic attitude that helped make nu-metal one of the defining rock movements of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Known for high-octane covers and an engaging stage presence, Smooth Brains brings audiences back to the era of oversized JNCO jeans, mosh pits and amplified guitars with performances that appeal both to longtime fans of the genre and younger audiences discovering the music for the first time.
Joining the lineup Friday is Officer Dick, a crowd-favorite tribute act dedicated to recreating the soundtrack of countless late-night gaming sessions through music featured in the iconic Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise. For many fans, the Tony Hawk soundtrack represented far more than background music, helping introduce an entire generation to punk, alternative rock, hip hop and underground music culture.

The combination of Smooth Brains and Officer Dick is expected to create a fast-paced atmosphere built around nostalgia, crowd singalongs and the type of energetic performances that have long made The Boardwalk one of the region’s go-to venues for live music and tribute events.
Saturday night shifts into heavier territory as Wake the Beast headlines a stacked lineup alongside Hate Primer,Gentlemen of Tragedy andDJ Bunz.
Wake the Beast continues to build momentum in the metal scene with a sound rooted in classic heavy metal influences while incorporating a modern edge. Fronted by music veteran Sammy Karlin, the band blends powerful vocals, aggressive instrumentation and arena-style energy into performances that channel both the spirit of 1980s and 1990s metal and the intensity of today’s heavier rock acts.

Karlin previously performed at Aftershock during the festival’s early years, helping establish his reputation among hard rock audiences. Backed by Christin Harlin on drums and Larry Micallef on bass, Wake the Beast recently released a three-song EP through AshTone Records while continuing work on its sophomore release.
The Saturday lineup also features Gentlemen of Tragedy, a regional act known for combining rock, punk, funk and groove-driven metal influences into a distinct sound inspired by bands such as Queens of the Stone Age, Faith No More, Pantera and Deftones.
The band has spent years building a following through emotionally charged performances and an engaging stage presence that reflects the diversity and independent spirit of the underground music scene. Their blend of heavy riffs, soulful melodies and rhythmic groove has helped make them a staple of the local live music circuit.

Hate Primer and DJ Bunz round out Saturday’s lineup, adding even more intensity and energy to a night expected to showcase the heavier side of the region’s live music scene.
