Community workshop Thursday will give residents an opportunity to review proposed traffic and pavement upgrades for one of the city’s busiest roadways before designs are finalized.
Folsom residents will have an opportunity this week to help shape the future of one of the city’s busiest transportation corridors as officials host a public workshop on the East Bidwell Corridor Improvements Project.
The workshop will be held Thursday, July 16, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 330 Palladio Parkway, Suite 2001, near Barnes & Noble. City staff and the project team will be available to present preliminary plans, answer questions and gather community feedback while the project remains in the design phase.
The project focuses on East Bidwell Street between Scholar Way and Clarksville Road and the U.S. Highway 50 overcrossing, a corridor that serves thousands of motorists daily while connecting residential neighborhoods, schools, shopping centers, medical facilities and businesses throughout Folsom. According to city information, the improvements are intended to address traffic operations while extending the life of the roadway through pavement rehabilitation.
Planned improvements include the addition of new turn lanes at the busy East Bidwell Street and Iron Point Road intersection, extended left-turn lanes at several key intersections, restriping along Broadstone Parkway to improve traffic flow, and full pavement resurfacing throughout the project corridor.
The East Bidwell and Iron Point intersection has experienced increasing traffic volumes in recent years as development has continued in south Folsom, including new residential neighborhoods, medical facilities and commercial growth. City information describes the corridor as one of Folsom’s most heavily traveled arterial routes and a key connection between major destinations throughout the community.
The operational improvements are being designed in conjunction with nearby development projects, including infrastructure associated with the Broadstone II Crossing project. According to city information, portions of the roadway improvements are funded through developer obligations while the pavement rehabilitation component is city funded.
City officials are encouraging residents, business owners and anyone who regularly travels the corridor to attend the open-house-style workshop. Participants will be able to review project displays, discuss the proposed improvements with engineers and provide comments that could help refine the final design before construction begins.
The workshop is part of the city’s ongoing public outreach effort as the project advances through the engineering and environmental review process. Final construction timelines have not yet been announced.
