ONOFF, Grave Mistake and Start The Countdown kick things off Friday before the Major Details Tour brings Tess & The Details, Kit Major and Simple Solution to Orangevale Saturday
Punk rock takes several different forms at The Boardwalk this weekend, where six bands will fill two nights with everything from Irish-born punk and Sunset Strip-inspired hard rock to pop-punk, power-pop and garage punk.
The weekend gets underway Friday, Aug. 28, with ONOFF leading a three-band bill featuring Sacramento hard rockers Grave Mistake and Chico pop-punk band Start The Countdown.
Saturday, Aug. 29, brings another three-band lineup as the Major Details Tour rolls into Orangevale with San Francisco’s Tess & The Details and Los Angeles garage-punk artist Kit Major, joined by Sacramento band Simple Solution. Both nights begin at 8 p.m. at the longtime Greenback Lane music venue
ONOFF brings Irish-born punk energy Friday
Friday’s lineup is topped by ONOFF, an Irish-born, Northern California-based punk rock trio known for combining an aggressive live sound with melodic hooks and a high-energy stage presence.
The band brings the urgency and raw edge of punk together with a strong melodic foundation, delivering songs designed to hit hard without sacrificing memorable hooks. That combination, paired with a relentless approach on stage, has become a defining element of ONOFF’s live performances.
Joining them Friday is Grave Mistake, a Sacramento-born hard rock band that brings a different edge to the evening.
Led by frontman Danny Snider, Grave Mistake mixes big riffs and raw rock energy with a modern take on the sound and attitude associated with the Sunset Strip. The band has built its reputation through loud, high-energy performances and has shared stages with artists including Powerman 5000, Last in Line and Faster Pussycat.
Start The Countdown opens the night with a blast of pop-punk from Chico. The band draws from the sound and attitude of the 2000s pop-punk era, combining catchy hooks, driving guitars, dynamic drums and memorable vocal melodies into original music built for a live crowd.
Together, Friday’s three bands cover a broad stretch of the rock spectrum, moving from Start The Countdown’s throwback pop-punk through Grave Mistake’s heavier hard rock before ONOFF closes the night with its melodic, high-powered brand of punk.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Friday, with the show beginning at 8 p.m.
Major Details Tour rolls in Saturday
The sound shifts again Saturday when the Major Details Tour arrives at The Boardwalk, pairing two female-fronted acts from opposite ends of California with Sacramento’s Simple Solution.
Tess & The Details come to Orangevale from San Francisco with a sound that blends punk, power-pop, melodic rock and alternative influences. The four-piece band has been active since 2023, when it released its debut album, “Runaway,” and has since continued releasing new music and touring throughout California and into Oregon and Nevada.
The band has also shared stages with acts including Fishbone, Swingin’ Utters, The Meteors and The Drowns, while developing a reputation around big hooks, loud guitars and melodic songs that retain a harder rock edge.
Sharing the touring bill is Kit Major, a Los Angeles garage-punk artist whose music pulls from punk, rock and pop. Major pairs loud guitars and catchy songwriting with an energetic performance style that embraces the fun and less-serious side of punk.
Together, Kit Major and Tess & The Details bring two different female-fronted approaches to melodic punk and rock to Saturday’s lineup.
Adding the Sacramento connection is Simple Solution, whose music reaches across punk rock, reggae, rocksteady and vintage ska influences. The band combines the speed and energy of punk with rhythmic influences rooted in earlier styles, adding another distinct sound to a lineup already spanning garage rock, power-pop and alternative rock.
With three bands drawing from different corners of punk and rock, Saturday’s show offers a stylistic contrast to Friday while keeping the weekend centered on original, guitar-driven music.
The Saturday concert is presented by The Boardwalk and Mikey Muscatello. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the show beginning at 8 p.m. Admission is $10.
The two-night lineup continues the live music tradition of The Boardwalk, which was originally established in Orangevale in 1987. The venue later closed before being purchased and revamped by Derek Clark and Sara Green, who upgraded its sound and lighting systems and returned it to operation as a live music venue. The Boardwalk also donates its concert door profits to local and regional nonprofit organizations.
Both weekend shows are open to all ages, with guests under 21 required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All ticket sales are final.
