The weekend begins Friday, Sept. 4, when Southern California artist Kyle Smith brings his genre-crossing live show to the Greenback Lane venue with Sacramento’s The E-Regulars.

Saturday night shifts gears with a special edition of Music Video Bingo celebrating Jenna Doll’s birthday and featuring the world premiere of Madman Locomotive’s new music video, “Playing with Fire.”

Kyle Smith brings reggae-rock energy Friday

Friday’s headliner is Kyle Smith, a Ventura-based artist whose music crosses the boundaries between reggae, rock, punk and hip-hop.

Rather than staying within a single musical lane, Smith has built his sound around the laid-back rhythms associated with reggae while adding the harder edges and energy of punk and rock along with elements of hip-hop. The result is a Southern California sound that can move from relaxed grooves to considerably more aggressive territory during the course of a performance.

Smith has also developed a reputation for putting considerable energy into his live performances. That approach has helped the independent artist build a following through extensive touring and appearances beyond his Southern California roots.

Joining Smith Friday will be The E-Regulars, bringing a Sacramento connection to the evening. The band blends reggae and rock with funk and jam-oriented influences, adding infectious rhythms and saxophone to a sound built heavily around live performance.

The pairing puts two acts with reggae foundations on the same stage while giving each a noticeably different musical identity. Where The E-Regulars lean toward funk and jam grooves, Smith pushes his sound toward punk, rock and hip-hop.

Fans looking for a closer experience with Smith can also take part in a limited VIP pre-show acoustic session and meet-and-greet on The Boardwalk patio. The experience includes early access, an intimate acoustic performance, a question-and-answer session, photo opportunity and limited-edition VIP lanyard.

The birthday bash gets underway at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Brunch and patio music fill Sunday

The weekend moves into daytime mode Sunday with Music Video Bingo and Bottomless Mimosa Brunch beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The recurring event combines brunch and rounds of Music Video Bingo, with guests matching songs and videos to their cards while enjoying food and the venue’s bottomless mimosa option.

Live music follows on the patio as Northern California singer-songwriter and guitarist Jazzy Chulick performs beginning at noon. Chulick’s acoustic, contemporary singer-songwriter sound brings a more laid-back finish to a weekend that begins with Friday night’s full-stage reggae-rock concert.

With Kyle Smith and The E-Regulars launching the weekend Friday, Saturday’s birthday bash and music video premiere and two Sunday events, The Boardwalk has entertainment stretching across all three days.

The Boardwalk is located at 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale. Tickets, reservations and additional information are available through the Folsom Times Event Calendar.
