Billy Williams, Moonshine Crazy and Ariel Jean Band take the stage Saturday night for a festival-style night of country music along Lake Natoma
Country music will take over the waterfront Saturday night as Crawdads on the Lake hosts Rock the Country Fest, bringing three bands together for one night of live music, dancing and country favorites along the shores of Lake Natoma.
The Aug. 22 event will feature Billy Williams, MoonShine Crazy and the Ariel Jean Band, with music scheduled from 9 to 11:30 p.m. The festival-style show brings together performers spanning modern country, country-rock and familiar favorites from some of the genre’s biggest names.
For Crawdads on the Lake, the show continues a busy season of live entertainment at its waterfront venue, where the outdoor patio and lakeside setting provide a fitting backdrop for a summertime Saturday night of country music.
Billy Williams comes to the lineup with a blend of heartfelt songwriting, soulful vocals and an audience-driven performance style developed over years on stages ranging from festivals and casinos to clubs and private events.
Williams’ musical journey began when he picked up a guitar at age 12. What followed was years of performing in bands and developing his craft as both a singer and songwriter.
Known for a distinctive voice and emotionally driven lyrics, Williams has built his performances around more than simply playing songs. His shows blend original music with recognizable crowd favorites while leaning heavily on storytelling and audience connection.
Whether delivering an emotional ballad or shifting into an upbeat crowd-pleaser, Williams brings a natural stage presence that has helped him connect with audiences and build a following across a variety of venues.
MoonShine Crazy brings another dose of high-energy country to Saturday’s three-band bill and is no stranger to Folsom audiences. Anyone who attended this year’s Folsom Pro Rodeo had an opportunity to see the Sacramento-based band’s style and talents firsthand.
Established in the summer of 2015, MoonShine Crazy has grown into one of the Sacramento region’s prominent modern country bands. The group built its reputation the old-fashioned way, playing honky-tonks and dive bars throughout Northern California, often performing late into the night while developing its sound and chemistry as a live band.
The band’s story also includes a songwriting partnership between Jessica Spaid and Dave Shafer. Their musical relationship began by co-writing songs before Shafer joined MoonShine Crazy in 2017. Together with original members Ritch Shefke and Mark Coudriet, the group developed the lineup and live sound that local country fans have come to know.
Years of performing together have given MoonShine Crazy a style well suited for a festival atmosphere, mixing modern country energy with the kind of live-show experience built through countless nights in front of Northern California crowds. Their appearance at the Folsom Pro Rodeo earlier this summer also makes Saturday’s performance something of a return engagement for local country fans.
The Ariel Jean Band rounds out the lineup with a Sacramento-area sound built around three-part sister harmonies and a combination of modern country and country-rock.
Sisters Ariel Jean, Aubrey Anne and Amber Joy have developed a following through their vocal chemistry, energetic performances and original music. Led by Ariel Jean’s vocals and songwriting, the group has shared stages with nationally known country artists including Tim McGraw, Little Big Town, Sam Hunt and Midland.
Ariel Jean’s musical beginnings included writing and playing guitar during Pacific Coast road trips before eventually taking her music from local venues to Nashville stages, including Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge.
Among the band’s original songs are “Honky Tonk Queen,” “Rocker Girl” and “On My Way to You,” recorded in Nashville with session musicians whose credits include work with major country artists such as Luke Bryan and Keith Urban.
Other songs, including “Coors Light Country Girl” and the ballad “Here,” have helped expand the group’s audience online and on the live music circuit. Whether performing original material or putting their own spin on familiar favorites, the sisters bring a combination of harmony, personality and energy to the stage.
Together, Saturday’s lineup offers several flavors of country music in a single night, from singer-songwriter material and contemporary country to country-rock and songs made for the dance floor.
The setting adds another element to the evening. Crawdads on the Lake sits along Lake Natoma and combines waterfront dining with live entertainment, with its outdoor concerts presented in a festival-style atmosphere.
Patio seating for Rock the Country Fest will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Those planning to make dinner part of the evening are encouraged to make reservations in advance. A concert ticket does not guarantee dinner seating, and dinner service ends early on concert nights.
With three bands sharing the bill and a Saturday night setting along the water, Rock the Country Fest gives local country fans an opportunity to settle in for an evening of live music without leaving Folsom.
