Miami-born singer-songwriter brings folk, rock and pop blend to Historic Folsom with special guest Sam Nicholson

A songwriter who turned to music as a way to make sense of his own path is bringing that journey to Historic Folsom this weekend, as Ryman Leon makes a Saturday night stop at the Folsom Hotel Saloon with special guest Sam Nicholson.

Leon will perform Saturday, Sept. 26, as part of his Extended Family Tour, a run of shows that has him crossing the country this fall with a sound that moves comfortably between folk, rock and pop. The Folsom performance follows a Friday night appearance at The Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles before the tour heads east in October for stops including New York, the Boston area, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

For Leon, the name of the tour has a personal connection to the community that has formed around his music. The Miami-born independent artist refers to those listeners as his “extended family,” an idea that reflects the way he has approached his career — less as a traditional artist-and-audience relationship and more as an ongoing connection built around songs, experiences and the people who have discovered them along the way.

His route into music was equally personal. Leon has described spending years following a path shaped largely by what he thought others expected of him before realizing it wasn’t making him happy. Music became an outlet during that period, eventually giving him the push to begin sharing songs he had previously kept largely to himself.

That background comes through in music centered on vulnerability and direct storytelling rather than a single neatly defined genre. Leon describes rock, pop and folk as his favorite musical territory and cites a wide-ranging group of influences that includes Billy Joel, Tom Petty, Jim Croce, Travis Barker and FINNEAS.

His catalog has grown considerably along the way. Among his better-known releases are “SOMEWHERE IN THE SILENCE,” “Life’s Been Boring,” “The Little Things” and “Love Me For Tonight,” while 2026 has brought another steady stream of music, including “How Bout Now?,” “American Love,” “Way Down in Mexico,” “Tell Me I’m Wrong,” “Who Am I Kidding,” “Isn’t She Lovely” and his latest single, “Getting Old,” released Sept. 18.

Leon has also released the albums BURN THE BRIDGE HOME. and Gut Player, projects that further showcase the mix of intimate songwriting and bigger contemporary production that has become part of his musical identity.

Saturday’s Folsom stop comes in the middle of an active stretch on the road. Leon played Tempe, Arizona, on Thursday before heading to Los Angeles Friday and Folsom Saturday. After a brief break, the tour resumes Oct. 6 at Mercury Lounge in New York, followed by performances near Boston, in Philadelphia and in Washington.

Joining Leon in Folsom will be Los Angeles singer-songwriter Sam Nicholson, who has been traveling with Leon on multiple dates of the tour. Nicholson works in a similar musical neighborhood, blending folk, pop and rock, and is scheduled alongside Leon on dates in Los Angeles, Folsom, New York, the Boston area and Philadelphia.

The pairing gives Saturday’s show a singer-songwriter focus, with two artists whose music crosses traditional genre lines rather than settling comfortably into one category.

The Folsom Hotel performance begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. The venue’s ticket listing identifies the concert as an all-ages show, with general admission tickets listed at $25. The Folsom Hotel Saloon is located at 703 Sutter St. in Historic Folsom.
