GRANITE BAY — SAFE Credit Union is expanding its footprint in Placer County with the opening of a new Granite Bay branch designed to redefine the traditional banking experience by combining digital convenience with personalized, in-person service.

The credit union celebrated the grand opening of its newest location on March 24 with a ribbon-cutting event that drew community leaders, business representatives and residents eager to explore the modern facility. The 4,800-square-foot branch, located in the Sierra Oaks Plaza Center anchored by Nugget Market, introduces a fresh approach to banking that replaces traditional teller lines with open transaction stations, flexible seating and a hospitality-focused environment.

SAFE officials say the concept is centered on meeting members where they are, both technologically and personally. The branch features a Hospitality Bar with charging stations, allowing customers to connect their devices while managing their finances in a relaxed setting.

“From the earliest days of my career, I learned that making personal connections with customers creates trust and opens the door to opportunities to truly help them make the most of their finances,” said SAFE Credit Union CEO Faye Nabhani during the event.

Nabhani added that the Granite Bay branch reflects a shift toward a more consultative model of service, where members can conduct everyday transactions, sit down with staff to discuss long-term financial goals or receive guidance navigating digital and mobile banking tools.

The new location also introduces a first-of-its-kind feature for SAFE Credit Union: a 40-seat in-branch community room known as the Financial Freedom Hub. The space will host financial education workshops and be available for local organizations to reserve for meetings and events. In partnership with Sierra College, the hub will also showcase rotating artwork from students in the college’s art department, further connecting the branch to the local community.

Local leaders attending the celebration emphasized the broader economic and community impact of the new branch. Placer County Supervisor Suzanne Jones noted that institutions like SAFE play a vital role in supporting families and small businesses throughout the region.

“Grand openings like this represent more than a new location. They represent confidence in community and investment in that community,” Jones said at the event.

In addition to its modern design and community-focused features, the branch offers practical amenities including four ATMs — two located inside — coin machines, safe deposit boxes and complimentary coffee and water for visitors.

Residents attending the opening shared enthusiasm about the added convenience and accessibility. Granite Bay resident Aímée Nakasu visited the branch to open an account for her daughter and said the new location brings banking services closer to home. Others commented on the welcoming layout and contemporary feel of the space.

SAFE Credit Union Chief Operating Officer Tiffani Vargas said the new branch represents a step forward in how financial institutions serve their members, blending personal interaction with evolving technology.

“We are taking banking to the next level by directly pairing additional opportunities for the use of personal technology alongside much-needed human connection,” Vargas said.

The grand opening also coincided with the launch of SAFE’s “For Fresh Starts” personal care items drive benefiting The Gathering Inn. Donations of essential items such as shampoo, toothpaste and sunscreen are being accepted through April 27 at the Granite Bay and West Roseville branches, as well as SAFE’s corporate office in Folsom.
