Veteran regional musicians revive hits from the grunge era Friday; Guitar Center student recitals take center stage Sunday in Orangevale
of flannel-era rock, crunchy guitar riffs and the unforgettable sound of the 1990s can relive one of alternative music’s most influential decades Friday night as Saving Seattle headlines The Boardwalk’s latest Free Friday concert in Orangevale.
Beginning at 8 p.m., the five-piece band will fill the venue with many of the biggest alternative rock and grunge hits from the 1990s and early 2000s, bringing audiences back to the era when bands from Seattle and beyond reshaped the rock landscape.
Known for recreating the music that defined a generation, Saving Seattle has become a favorite among regional audiences looking to revisit the songs that dominated rock radio, MTV and concert stages during the height of the alternative explosion.
The band features five seasoned musicians with decades of professional performing experience throughout California’s Central Valley, Amador County and the greater Sacramento region. Together, they deliver faithful performances of many of the era’s most recognizable hits while capturing the raw energy and emotion that made alternative and grunge music cultural touchstones.
While the band’s name pays tribute to the city widely considered the birthplace of grunge, Saving Seattle’s performances celebrate the broader alternative rock movement that emerged during the 1990s and carried into the early 2000s. Audiences can expect an evening filled with powerful vocals, driving guitar riffs and the anthems that helped define a generation of rock fans.
The performance is part of The Boardwalk’s popular Free Friday series, giving audiences an opportunity to enjoy live music without the cost of admission while continuing the Orangevale venue’s tradition of showcasing regional talent alongside touring artists and tribute acts.
Guitar Center Student Recitals Sunday
The weekend continues Sunday afternoon as Guitar Center Student Recitals take over The Boardwalk beginning at 1 p.m., providing young musicians the opportunity to perform on one of the Sacramento region’s most recognizable live music stages.
The afternoon showcase highlights students from Guitar Center’s music education program as they step into the spotlight to demonstrate the skills they have developed through lessons and practice. The performances reflect The Boardwalk’s ongoing commitment to supporting music education while giving aspiring performers valuable experience in front of a live audience.
Organizers say the event celebrates the importance of nurturing the next generation of musicians by providing students with the chance to perform on a professional stage that has welcomed countless local, regional and touring artists through the years.

Saving Seattle performs Friday, June 26, beginning at 8 p.m. Admission is free. Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
