Authorities say 49-year-old walked away from Growlersburg Conservation Camp in Georgetown around 8 p.m. Tuesday
Authorities are continuing their search for an incarcerated man who walked away Monday night from Growlersburg Conservation Camp in El Dorado County, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Officials said staff discovered Juan David Veramancini missing during a routine head count at approximately 8 p.m. An emergency count was immediately initiated, confirming he was no longer at the camp. Within minutes, agents from CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety were directed to locate and apprehend him, and local law enforcement agencies were notified.
Veramancini, 49, was last seen wearing an orange beanie and orange jacket. Authorities said he could also be wearing orange pants or gray sweatpants with white tennis shoes or black boots. He is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing approximately 152 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, although officials noted he is currently bald.
According to CDCR, Veramancini was received from Orange County on July 1, 2024, and is serving a 10-year sentence for first-degree burglary.
Growlersburg Conservation Camp, located outside Georgetown in El Dorado County, houses minimum-custody incarcerated individuals who participate in fire prevention and other community service programs under supervision.
Anyone who sees Veramancini or has knowledge of his whereabouts is urged to contact any law enforcement agency, call 911, or contact Special Agent Keeney at 916-210-9159.
CDCR officials noted that since 1977, 99 percent of people who have left an adult institution, camp or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
