Folsom-area senator joins key state panel responsible for billions in education infrastructure investments
Senator Roger Niello of Fair Oaks has been appointed to serve as a member of California’s State Allocation Board, a key body responsible for overseeing the distribution of state funding for public school facilities across the state.
The appointment was made by Senate President pro Tempore Monique Limón, placing Niello on the 10-member board that plays a central role in determining how billions of dollars in school construction and modernization funding are allocated for Transitional Kindergarten through 12th grade campuses.
Originally established in 1947, the State Allocation Board administers the state’s School Facility Program, which provides financial support for the construction, modernization and maintenance of public school facilities throughout California. Since 1998, the state has authorized approximately $54.5 billion for the program, including $8.5 billion approved by voters through Proposition 2 in November 2024.
In a statement following his appointment, Niello said he is committed to ensuring responsible oversight of those funds.
“I am honored to serve on the State Allocation Board,” Niello stated. “It is important to make thoughtful budget decisions for school facilities, and I will take my role as a board member with the diligence and attention that our schools deserve.”
Niello was officially sworn into the role on Feb. 19, 2026.
The State Allocation Board is composed of the Director of Finance, the Director of the Department of General Services, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, three members of the Senate, three members of the Assembly, and one gubernatorial appointee. Together, the board reviews and approves funding applications that directly impact the condition and capacity of school campuses statewide.
The board’s next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25 at 4 p.m. and will be conducted as a hybrid public meeting, with participation details available through the State Allocation Board’s official website.
