Free admission show brings “The Taming of the Shrew” to life with Take Note Troupe
One of Historic Folsom’s favorite summer traditions returns to the Zittel Family Amphitheater this weekend as Take Note Troupe presents William Shakespeare’s classic comedy “The Taming of the Shrew” in a colorful outdoor production designed for audiences of all ages.
The performances will take place Friday and Saturday evenings at the Zittel Family Amphitheater in Historic Folsom, bringing live theater, comedy and classic storytelling back beneath the stars as part of the troupe’s annual Shakespeare in the Park series.
This year’s production adds a vibrant Bollywood-inspired flair to Shakespeare’s timeless comedy, blending lively choreography, energetic performances and playful humor into the beloved story of spirited Katherina and the determined Petruchio. Their ongoing clash of personalities fuels the center of the production as mistaken identities, outrageous suitors and chaotic romance unfold around them in classic Shakespeare fashion.
According to organizers, the high-energy adaptation is designed to make Shakespeare approachable and entertaining for longtime theater lovers while also creating a fun and engaging experience for families and younger audiences. The colorful outdoor setting and comedic pacing have become hallmarks of Take Note Troupe’s annual Shakespeare performances throughout the region.
Take Note Troupe has earned a strong regional following for its youth theater productions, improv performances and educational arts programming centered around what the organization calls “Play Theory,” a philosophy that uses theater arts to encourage creativity, confidence and collaboration. The nonprofit organization regularly stages productions throughout Placer and Sacramento counties and has continued expanding its summer Shakespeare performances in local communities.
The Historic Folsom performances are part of the troupe’s broader regional Shakespeare in the Park tour that also includes appearances in Roseville, Rocklin and Fair Oaks during the coming weeks.
Audience members attending the Folsom performances are encouraged to bring low-backed lawn chairs or picnic blankets for seating on the amphitheater grounds. Organizers recommend arriving between 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. for seating assistance ahead of the 7:30 p.m. showtime. Guests are also encouraged to enjoy dinner from Historic Folsom restaurants before or during the performance to create a full evening experience in the district.
The performances are free to attend, although donations supporting the production are welcomed. No tickets are required.
“The Taming of the Shrew” takes place May 29 and 30 at the Zittel Family Amphitheater, located at 200 Wool Street in Historic Folsom.
