First off-campus extension clinic brings pediatric orthopedic and sports medicine care closer to foothill families
FOLSOM — Shriners Children’s Northern California, one of the top hospitals in the nation for pediatric orthopedic care, is expanding into the Folsom and El Dorado Hills area with the opening of a new clinic that will bring specialized services closer to families in eastern Sacramento County and El Dorado County.
The new Folsom clinic, located at 1625 Creekside Drive, Suite 200, will be the first Shriners Children’s Northern California location not situated on the campus of its flagship hospital at 2425 Stockton Boulevard in Sacramento. The first patient date is Thursday, March 19, and the clinic will initially operate two days a week, Mondays and Thursdays.
“We are pleased now to expand into the Folsom community where we can see patients from Folsom, Fair Oaks, El Dorado Hills, Placerville and beyond,” says Kenny Pawlek, Hospital Administrator at Shriners Children’s Northern California. “We are proud to care for these patients today and are excited to offer our services to them at a location closer to where they live and play.”
The Folsom site is located within an existing medical office building directly across from Dignity Health’s Mercy Hospital of Folsom. The clinic will operate in a second-floor office suite that is shared with another physician group and will provide orthopedics and sports medicine services for both new and current patients.
Hospital leaders say the expansion is designed to ease travel burdens for families who previously commuted to Sacramento for appointments. Shriners Children’s Northern California treats hundreds of patients from Folsom and surrounding foothill communities each year. The Folsom clinic will function as an extension of the outpatient clinic within the Sacramento hospital, meaning children will see the same specialized medical staff in this new, convenient location while receiving the same high standard of care.
The Northern California hospital is approaching its 30th year serving the capital region and offers a full range of pediatric specialty services. These include orthopedics and orthopedic surgery, spine and spinal cord injury care, inpatient rehabilitation, cleft lip and palate surgery, and prosthetics and orthotics. For local youth athletes across Folsom, El Dorado Hills and nearby communities, the addition of pediatric sports medicine services provides more accessible care for sports-related injuries and orthopedic conditions without the longer drive into Sacramento.

All services are delivered with a full spectrum of wraparound, patient-centered care. That includes inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, child life and recreational therapy, social services, and an on-site classroom with customized instruction to help children stay on track academically during treatment. The organization’s three-part mission focuses on providing pediatric specialty care, conducting innovative research to develop new treatments, and offering outstanding education programs for medical professionals.
Shriners Children’s Northern California is also home to the Neil Reitman Pediatric Burn Institute, where children admitted for burn injuries of all severities and types receive pioneering care from an internationally recognized team of specialists. For more than 25 years, the institute has provided comprehensive burn treatment ranging from initial management and critical care to wound coverage, inpatient care, rehabilitation and reconstruction. The multidisciplinary approach is designed to maximize cosmetic and functional outcomes while providing rigorous therapy and emotional support for patients and families.
Since opening its first hospital in 1922, Shriners Children’s has treated more than 1.5 million children. Today, the health system conducts more than 320,000 orthopedic visits each year and is supported by 1,252 specialized physicians and surgeons across its network. Children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care regardless of their families’ ability to pay or insurance status and receive services in a compassionate, family-centered environment.
The Folsom Chamber of Commerce will help Shriners Children’s Northern California celebrate the opening of the new clinic with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 26, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the official ribbon cutting taking place at 5:00 p.m. The celebration will include light bites, guided tours of the clinic and raffle prizes. Community members are invited to attend and welcome the nationally recognized pediatric specialty provider to its new home in Folsom.
