Sutter Street merchants are loving the hustle and bustle happening as of late
It seemed as if Spring officially sprung in and around Folsom over the weekend with warm temperatures, fresh blooms and many out and about in the community. When it comes to the city’s Historic District, the term “many” came in the form of thousands as Sutter Street’s special event drew a record crowd.
The attraction was the annual Spring Arts and Crafts Fair that kicks off the busy season of events within the Historic. The event kicked off at 9 a.m. Sunday and spanned well into the afternoon, as artisans of all types and styles showcased their goods on Sutter Street.
From Reading Street all the way up to Scott Street, the rows of vendors seemed endless. Booths lines both sides of Sutter Street and weaved their way in and out of side lots and just about every little space in the area.
The list of unique items for sale was endless, from yard art to custom signs, handmade candles, apparel, glassware, woodworks, custom made pens and just about everything in between you could imagine.
“With the amazing weather and a well-attended event, the merchants and vendors on Sutter Street had an amazing day, said Jim Metzker, co-owner of Dorothea’s Shoppe on Sutter Street, one of the many that was bustling with business. “The food trucks were a nice addition and of course the hundreds of dogs at this dog friendly event were enjoying this great family event, the best one ever in my opinion.”
Sunday’s event was a great success, according to Folsom Historic District Association Executive Director Judy Collinsworth. Collinsworth said the event featured 200 different vendors this year, many who traveled a great distance to participate in the Folsom venue. The event was free to attend, Collinsworth and event volunteers estimated some 8000 different people visited the district during the day.
Sunday’s event followed a busy Saturday in the district as the weekly Farmer’s Market is always a well attended event in the plaza. Starting this Sunday, there will be a second Farmer’s Market in the district each week from 9 am. Until 1 pm. on the 700 block of Sutter Street which is closed to traffic on the weekends.
This Friday, the district welcomes the inaugural California Jazz Championships and looking ahead that will be followed in the coming weeks by the spring and summer concert series, he Balance Bike Bash, Folsom Lake Symphony and more.
