New Iron Point Road facility adds to health system’s growing investment across Folsom, Highway 50 corridor
Sutter Health is continuing to expand its footprint in Folsom, with plans for a new $4.3 million pediatric care center that will add another medical facility to the health system’s growing network in the city.
The new pediatric center is planned for an existing office building at 80 Iron Point Circle and will include 10 exam rooms and one treatment room.
The project represents another piece of a much larger expansion by Sutter Health in Folsom and along the Highway 50 corridor, where the health system has been investing in additional primary, specialty and outpatient medical services.
The pediatric investment comes as Sutter Medical Group is also recruiting additional pediatricians for its Folsom practice, as originally reported by the Sacramento Business Journal. The expansion follows Sutter’s previously announced plans to increase access to pediatric and primary care appointments in Folsom as the community and surrounding Highway 50 corridor continue to grow.
Sutter has previously said it plans to retain and expand its existing Sutter Medical Plaza Folsom at 2575 East Bidwell St. Dr. Peter Hull, chief medical officer for Sutter Health in the greater Sacramento region, said during an earlier announcement that the health system planned to double its primary care footprint at that location to increase access to both primary care and pediatric appointments.
The Iron Point Circle project is separate from Sutter Health’s much larger Folsom Care Complex currently under development near East Bidwell Street and the Palladio.
Sutter’s $145 million Folsom Care Complex rising fast
The new pediatric center is only one part of Sutter Health’s expanding presence in Folsom. Less than two miles away, the health system is developing its much larger $145 million Sutter Folsom Care Complex across East Bidwell Street from the Palladio, a project Folsom Times covered when Sutter Health, city leaders, the Folsom Chamber and community members gathered for its official groundbreaking in June 2025.
The three-story, 106,500-square-foot complex is being developed through a partnership between Sutter Health and Elliott Homes and is planned as a major regional medical destination serving Folsom, the Highway 50 corridor and surrounding foothill communities.
The complex will bring a broad range of services under one roof, including a Sutter Cancer Center offering infusion and radiation therapy, a same-day outpatient surgery center, expanded urgent care, imaging and laboratory services and more than two dozen medical specialists.
Among the major components is the new cancer center, which will occupy the upper floors of the complex. The center is planned to provide advanced infusion and radiation services locally and will include a separate entrance designed to provide additional protection for immunocompromised patients.
In addition to the cancer center, the complex will include an ambulatory surgery center allowing specialty physicians and general surgeons to perform outpatient procedures. An expanded Sutter Urgent Care will also be housed in the facility and connected with Sutter Imaging and Sutter Lab services, bringing several services together at one location.
Sutter’s existing urgent care operation at Sutter Medical Plaza Folsom is expected to move to the new complex when it opens.
When the Folsom Care Complex opens, Sutter has said it will bring together 27 new specialty and primary care physicians alongside four existing physicians, significantly increasing the number of medical specialists available locally.
Services planned for the complex include primary and urgent care, heart and vascular services, dermatology, endocrinology, ear, nose and throat care, gastroenterology, neuroscience, women’s health, cancer care, orthopedics, pain management, plastic and reconstructive surgery, general surgery, imaging and laboratory services.
“As a physician, I’m excited to see the new Sutter Folsom Care Complex bring together primary, urgent and specialty care, including cancer, imaging and lab services in one integrated setting,” Sutter Medical Group Chief Medical Officer Dr. Karun Grossman said when the project broke ground. “This coordination will help us diagnose and treat patients more efficiently, reduce delays and improve outcomes.”
Grossman also pointed to the ability to bring more advanced care closer to local patients.
“I’m especially enthusiastic about bringing top specialists to Folsom so patients can receive expert cancer and other care close to where they live and work,” Grossman said.
The investment extends beyond the new complex. Sutter previously announced plans to double the size of its primary care center at Sutter Medical Plaza Folsom, located about 1.5 miles away at 2575 East Bidwell St., to accommodate additional pediatric and primary care appointments. The newly planned pediatric center at Iron Point Circle now adds another location to that growing network of Folsom services.
“This planned care complex and the expanded primary-care services in Folsom exemplify Sutter’s mission to provide comprehensive, integrated and connected care for getting and staying well,” Rachael McKinney, Sutter’s Greater Sacramento Market president, said at the 2025 groundbreaking. “Our aim is to deliver seamless, convenient care to support patients at every stage of their healthcare journey.”
Sutter Health President and CEO Warner Thomas similarly described the Folsom investment as part of the health system’s effort to increase access to medical services throughout the region.
“We’re proud to expand access to high-quality primary and specialty care for the growing communities along the Highway 50 Corridor and surrounding areas,” Thomas said at the groundbreaking. “Building on our more than a century of caring for Northern Californians, and with our roots right here in Sacramento, today’s groundbreaking reflects our continued investment in the broader region.”
Taken together, the new Iron Point pediatric center, expansion of Sutter Medical Plaza Folsom and development of the $145 million Folsom Care Complex represent a significant increase in Sutter’s local footprint and the range of health care services available within the city.
