The Soroptimist International of Folsom and El Dorado Hills held its annual “Live Your Dream” luncheon and awards ceremony, announcing three different honorees of the annual award.

The Soroptimist’s Live Your Dream Awards program is a unique education grant for women who provide the primary financial support for their families. Live Your Dream Awards give women the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects.

Three area women were chosen from a long list of applicants this year. The winners included Christine Roots, Desyrae Hernandez and Amy Stamper. Each has overcome various forms of adversity to succeed. 

The Live Your Dream Awards offer three levels of cash awards. Eligible applicants can submit their application between August 1 – November 15. 

Ultimately, a Live Your Dream Awards finalist has the potential to receive up to $16,000 to help offset tuition costs, purchase books, get transportation, or find reliable childcare so she can worry less about how to pay her bills and focus on reaching her dreams.

The financial awards are to further career education and training. In addition to Live Your Dream, the organization sponsors  the Dream It, Be It program, consisting of life skills classes at local middle and high schools.

Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization working to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. 

Over 80,000 Soroptimists in about 120 countries and territories volunteer time and contribute financial support to community–based and international projects that benefit women and girls. 

The name, Soroptimist, means “best for women,” and that’s what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimists are women at their best, working to help other women to be their best. 

In addition to the aforementioned programs, additional Soroptimist programs include anti-trafficking awareness and victim support to Dress a Girl Around the World sewing projects. Members enjoy working together to make a difference in the community and positively impacting local women and girls.
