EL DORADO HILLS — After filling the Town Center Amphitheater with the legendary sounds of Carlos Santana last week, Live on the Boulevard shifts gears this Thursday as Top Shelf Classics brings an evening of Motown, soul, R&B, funk and dance favorites to one of El Dorado Hills’ most popular summer traditions.
Performing July 16 at the Town Center Amphitheater, Top Shelf Classics will deliver its signature blend of timeless classics and modern favorites, giving audiences another opportunity to enjoy free live music under the stars while dancing to songs that have filled dance floors for generations.
Founded in 2003 by the late Johnny “Top Shelf” Trotman, Top Shelf Classics has grown into one of Northern California’s premier party and show bands. For more than two decades, the group has built a reputation for high-energy performances that combine exceptional musicianship, powerhouse vocals and nonstop audience interaction, making them a favorite for concerts, festivals, corporate events, weddings and community celebrations across California and beyond.
Rather than focusing on one musical era, Top Shelf Classics celebrates the evolution of popular music by performing a diverse catalog that stretches from Motown and soul classics through funk, disco, old-school R&B, pop favorites and today’s contemporary hits. Their performances are designed to appeal to multiple generations of music lovers, blending nostalgic favorites with modern dance songs that keep audiences engaged from beginning to end.
Whether performing as an intimate vocal ensemble or a full-scale show band, Top Shelf Classics has become known for polished productions featuring choreography, multiple vocalists and an energetic stage presence. Their performances are built around audience participation, encouraging concertgoers to leave their lawn chairs behind and join the celebration on the dance floor.
The band has appeared at premier venues and events throughout Northern California, including recurring performances at Feinstein’s at Hotel Nikko in San Francisco, Yoshi’s Oakland and numerous wineries, festivals and outdoor concert series. Their ability to adapt to audiences of every size has made them one of the region’s most sought-after live entertainment acts.
Thursday’s performance continues another successful season of Live on the Boulevard, the weekly Thursday night concert series that has become a summertime tradition at El Dorado Hills Town Center. Held at the Town Center Amphitheater, 4364 Town Center Blvd., the free concerts continue drawing residents and visitors together for evenings of live entertainment in a relaxed outdoor setting.
Many regular attendees have developed a familiar routine. Gates open at 5 p.m. for chair setup, allowing concertgoers to reserve a spot before enjoying dinner at one of the Town Center’s restaurants. The amphitheater opens at 5:30 p.m., giving families and friends time to dine, shop and socialize before the evening’s performance begins.
An online waitlist for early chair setup opens at noon on concert days. One registrant may bring up to four people, and participants are asked to line up by 5:15 p.m. in numerical order at the corner of Brickyard and Holiday Inn before entering the amphitheater.
Wine, beer and spirits are available for purchase inside the venue. Organizers remind guests that outside alcohol, beverages and ice chests are prohibited due to ABC regulations.
Following Thursday night’s performance, the summer concert series continues July 23 with Super Bad, a high-energy dance band known for keeping crowds on their feet with a wide-ranging mix of party favorites spanning the 1970s through today’s biggest hits.
Country music takes center stage July 30 during a special double-bill performance featuring Cynthia Renee and Cripple Creek, giving audiences two complete country concerts in one evening. Renee has earned national recognition through her Top 100 singles “Working on a Hangover” and “Good on Me,” while Cripple Creek has spent more than a decade performing throughout the West Coast, appearing at major festivals and sharing stages with Toby Keith, Morgan Wallen, Lainey Wilson and Dustin Lynch.
The final month of the season begins Aug. 6 with Journey Unauthorized, celebrating the music of Journey through an authentic arena-rock tribute show before the series concludes Aug. 27 with The Spazmatics, whose energetic tribute to the music and style of the 1980s closes another summer of entertainment in El Dorado Hills.
Concert organizers remind attendees that while admission is free, venue guidelines remain in place. Bags must be clear plastic or smaller than 8-by-6-by-1 inches, and all bags and coolers are subject to search. Blankets, personal tables, barbecues and roped-off seating areas are not permitted.
With another energetic performance on tap and only a handful of concerts remaining this summer, Live on the Boulevard continues to provide one of the region’s premier destinations for free Thursday night entertainment, bringing together music, community and warm summer evenings in the heart of El Dorado Hills.
