In a statement, the sheriff’s office said, “At approximately 11:55 a.m., the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to two separate fatal ski incidents at Heavenly’s Boulder Lodge.”

Both decedents were transported to the base area by Heavenly Ski Patrol, officials said. Life-saving measures were attempted by Ski Patrol and paramedics from the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, but “both individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities confirmed the two victims were males, ages 33 and 58. Though the incidents occurred around the same time and location, officials emphasized they were unrelated.

“The incidents are not connected, and there is no known relationship between the decedents,” the sheriff’s office stated.

The fatalities come during a tragic stretch across the greater Tahoe region, bringing the total number of skiing-related deaths in less than a week to 12.

Earlier this week, nine skiers were killed in an avalanche while traveling out of Castle Peak amid powerful Sierra storms that delivered heavy snowfall. In a separate incident, a 21-year-old female skier died at Northstar California Resort.

Officials said the investigation into Friday’s incidents remains active. No additional details were immediately available.
