Folsom Police Department responded Tuesday after an unsubstantiated threat prompted a lockdown at Folsom High School, while several other area schools were also placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution shortly after noon.
According to authorities and school officials, an anonymous caller reported just after 12 p.m. that they were in a school parking lot and armed with a semi-automatic rifle. The report triggered an immediate response, with all available police units dispatched to the campus and surrounding area.
Officers conducted a thorough search of the school and nearby areas but did not locate any suspect or evidence supporting the claim. The situation was ultimately determined to be an unsubstantiated threat.
“We received information that an anonymous caller had threatened violence at Folsom High School today just after noon,” the Folsom Police Department shared in a statement. “All available officers checked the school and surrounding areas, and found NO threat to safety.
Out of caution during the investigation, additional nearby campuses were temporarily placed on lockdown. All lockdowns were lifted at approximately 12:50 p.m. once officers confirmed there was no active threat.
The incident remains under investigation and may be connected to similar hoax threats, according to school officials.
“Folsom High School received information that an anonymous caller had threatened violence at the school today just after 12 pm,” said Angela Griffin Ankhelyi, Chief Officer of Communications & Community Engagement. “Folsom PD responded quickly with all available officers, checked the school and surrounding areas, and found no threat to safety.”
She added, “We are thankful for the quick response of our law enforcement partners and the coordination of our staff and students by following all safety protocols.”
No injuries were reported, and normal activities resumed following the incident.
