Locals Colby Woodward, Allison Maxson are top male, female runners overall
The Palladio at Broadstone was filled with energy and activity Sunday morning as hundreds came out at the City of Folsom celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Love My Mom 5K and Kids Dash. Not only did the event see a sell-out of entries this year, numbers were up when it came to those cheering from the sidelines as well as area business owners and organizers that formed a city of booths for the post-run festival in the Palladio’s welcoming Piazza.
Not only was Sunday’s event a celebration of ten years for this fun, family friendly event its was also a farewell, of sorts, as it marked the final time it would take place, at least at The Palladio. Due to construction beginning in the next year for a new hotel on site, the center will no longer function as the venue for the run, should it continue in the future. Officials from Folsom’s Parks and Recreation are exploring options for a replacement event in the future.
Sunday’s event celebrates family and community the same way it since it began in 2014. The event was presented by the Folsom Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with the Palladio, Kaiser Permanente and a long list of community businesses that support the Parks and Recreation Department throughout the year.
The start of the event was located near Whole Foods in the center. The course route is fast and flat, making it an ideal route for runners, walkers, and stroller striders, even leashed dogs are welcome. The fun Kids’ Dash for ages 10 and under was held prior to the start of the 5K, with medals awarded to all registered participants.
Participants in the 5K weaved their way through the maze of roped off streets in and around The Palladio in a variety of categories including single runners, and those with double strollers, mom entries, female entries and male. All of the 5K participants earned a special 10th anniversary finisher’s medal and other custom swag that was presented to them at the finish line in the middle of the center near its Piazza and the festival where many local businesses, event sponsors and organizations presented participants and visitors with interactive games, displays and givaways, all of which were family friendly and fun for all ages., complete with music from local DJ Bryan Greenwalt and an awards ceremony for the top finishers of each class.
At the finish line, there was continuous celebration as runners came across in their respective divisions. It was there they were presented their medal for their run and traveled over to enjoy the festival that came complete with free drinks, eats and more.
Sunday’s event had 306 entries in the women’s division. When it came to the results, Allison Maxon of Folsom was the first one to the finish line with a time of 18:24. Maxson ended up finishing in second place overall among all entrants as well. Second place in the women’s division went to Andrea Deutsche with a. time of 20.12. Laura Bodie of Folsom was third with a 21.45 over Suzanne Stewart of El Dorado Hills with a 21.59 minute run. Jessica Heary of Folsom rounded out the top five with a time of 22.20.
In the men’s class, Colby Woodard of El Dorado Hills who ran a 17.53 took the win out 128 registered male entrants. Thomas Capelli of El Dorado Hills was second with an 18.38. HM Yap of Folsom finished third with a 21.17 over Ramy Hiniyeh of Elk Grove with a time of 22.06 and Andy Carle of Folsom who rounded out the top five with a 22.23.
The top five finishers in the single stroller class that had 24 entries this year ‘were Andrea Deutsche of Folsom, Suzanne Stewart of El Dorado Hills, Jessica Heary of Folsom, Brittney Hernandez of Rancho Cordova and Kayla Caughell of Sacramento.
In double stoller, Bethany Wilkes of Cameron Park took the win out of 12 entries. Emily Auernig of Fair Oaks was second with Lauren Carter of Cameron Park claiming third. Gabrielle Grow of Folsom and Victory Valencia of Folsom rounded out the top five finishers.
A total of 221 entries made up the Mom class Sunday. This division was also won by Maxon who was followed by Deutsche. Laura Bodie of Folsom was third over Stewarts and Heary.
