It’s week three for area prep football and non-league competition continues with one area team back playing on their home turf and two others hitting the road for their respective games.

After shutting out Ponderosa last Friday night in Shingle Springs, the Vista del Lago Eagles will have the pleasure of playing back at Eagle Stadium Friday night as they host Vanden.

Friday will mark the first time Vista has played Vanden outside of season ending playoff competition, with the last match up back in 2021. That’s a game the Eagles would rather forget as Vanden handed them a 67-27 playoff loss. Vanden is the reigning Sac Joaquin Section 4 defending champion and is sure to be bringing their top game to the Eagles’ turf.

The Folsom Bulldogs will be on the road for the third straight week. After falling to the top NorCal team, San Mateo Serra, last Saturday in a day game, Folsom faces Edison this Friday night.

In past competition, Folsom has mixed results against Edison. They lost a heartbreaker to Edison back in 2019 when a single possession put them down by three on the scoreboard at the end of the night. Folsom turned that record around last year when they beat the same team in a hands down in a 65-0 game.

After beating powerhouse Grant last Friday, the Oak Ridge Trojans hit the road this week to face Madison San Diego in the Southern California Honor Bowl. The long-haul road game comes after last week’s very physical game against Grant that looked more like a playoff game than that of pre-league competition. The game ended at 21-18 Oak Ridge, sending them to SoCal with a bit of momentum behind them.

Cordova is now two games into a winless season as they enter this third week. The Lancers will host the Rio Linda Knights this week. Cordova has been scoreless in his last two match ups, falling to El Capitan 28-0 last week and suffering a 49-0 loss to Fairfield on opening night.

Nearby Granite Bay will face Pittsburg of the North Coast Section this week. Last Friday, the Grizzlies lost 15 to zip to the three time defending division champion team Manteca.
