Folsom’s Sutter Street Theatre is set to raise the curtain on another production this weekend with a show that young audiences are sure to enjoy. Twelve Dancing Princesses will open this Saturday afternoon. 

According to the Sutter Street playbill, guests will enter the magical world of twelve princesses who love to dance. Each night, they sing the song that allows them secret passage into the enchanted forest that takes theatre goers on an entertaining journey.

Once they arrive, the trees sparkle and chime with silver and gold leaves, beautiful music plays and the spirit of their mother watches over them. In the meantime, their father, the king, is perplexed, and the shoemaker and his apprentices are exasperated, but the princesses must dance. When the king issues a proclamation promising a reward for who can discover the secret of where the princesses go each night events rapidly begin to change.

The production is based on the book and the lyrics by Jennifer Kirkeby and the music of Shirly Mier and was adapted from the fairytake by The Brothers Grimm. The play is directed locally by Haley McDaniel with musical direction and choreography by Heather Clark. 

The Twelve Dancing Princesses dance their way onto the Sutter Street stage Satuday’s and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. through Feb. 25. Dial M for Murder enters second week at SST

As previously reported, Dial M for Murder continues at Sutter Street Theatre through February 18 and it already entriguing local audiences. 

According to the Sutter Street Theatre playbill, the local production of Dial M for Murder is a new version of the celebrated murder mystery that inspired Alfred Hitchcock’s 1954 masterpiece for the screen and the original book by Fredrick Knott. 

Much like the  Hitchock classic, the  story surrounds its main character, Tony Wendice who is convinced that his wife Margot has been cheating on him. Although it seems that the affair is over, the story doesn’t end there. Tony, in his jealousy, spins a web of suspicion and deception that will tighten around them and ensnare them both in danger, recrimination and murder.

The prodiction is presented in partnership with Kauffmans’ Give Us a Hand Productions and is directed by Janelle Kauffman & Stephen Kauffman who have been involved with numerous Sutter Street Theatre productions. 

Curtain times for the show is Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. Sundays at 4:30 p.m.,with the exception of February 11 when the show will go dark on Super Bowl Sunday.
