Highway 50 shut down at Stateline during heavy police activity

One person was killed and two people have been arrested Saturday after authorities responded to a reported shooter situation at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in South Lake Tahoe early Saturday.

Authorities held a briefing to address the shooting that led to the casino lockdown on Saturday morning.

Douglass County Sheriff Dan Coverly informed the media that the suspect, Edgar Julian Delgado, 24, and the victim, reported as Omar Reyes Garcia, 32, met at a casino bar at about 2 a.m. and spent several hours together.

Coverly reported that Casino security video showed that the two got into an argument and the Delgado pulled out a gun and shot Reyes Garcia in the head.

Over 50 members of law enforcement personnel reportedly responded to the incident that was originally treated as an active shooter situation, which is routine in a casino facility, a process that includes checking the roof and every place inside the casino for other possible victims and for suspects. Highway 50 at Stateline was closed in the both directions during the response.

Hard Rock surveillance footage helped identify the suspect. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office then pulled over a vehicle with Delgado and Savannah RacquelTautaupale, 26, inside and both were taken into custody, Coverly said. Delgado was booked ok suspicion of murder and Tautaupale was booked for driving under the influence.
