A 21-year-old man was killed and two others, including a child, were seriously injured in a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon along Grant Line Road, near the intersection with White Rock Road just east of Rancho Cordova.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. when a Hyundai Elantra traveling northbound on Grant Line collided head-on with a Subaru Impreza heading southbound.
The impact of the crash claimed the life of the Hyundai’s driver, a 21-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 12-year-old child, suffered major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The 24-year-old driver of the Subaru also sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.
Emergency crews from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded quickly, and traffic in the area was closed for several hours as officers conducted their investigation and cleared the wreckage.
Authorities say the cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is currently unknown whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has additional information is urged to contact the California Highway Patrol’s East Sacramento office at (916) 464-1450.
