Traffic delays reported as CHP investigates fatal crash
EL DORADO HILLS — A man was killedTuesday afternoonafter his pickup truck crashed through a guardrail and plunged down an embankment along eastbound Highway 50 near El Dorado Hills, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported just before 3:30 p.m. on eastbound Highway 50 east of Silva Valley Parkway on the Bass Lake Grade. CHP officers responded to the scene and determined the driver was the sole occupant of the pickup truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
As of about 4:45 p.m., CHP said the right lane of eastbound Highway 50 remained closed as part of a major crash investigation, with traffic significantly affected in the area. Caltrans traffic cameras showed vehicles backing up near the crash site as crews worked the scene.
CHP officials advised motorists to expect delays and use caution while traveling through the area, noting that rainfall was also impacting roadway conditions during the ongoing investigation.
No additional details about the cause of the crash were immediately released.
