ORANGEVALE — Two male juveniles were seriously injured Tuesday after a dirt bike crashed into a vehicle near an elementary school in Orangevale, with investigators reporting alcohol may have been a factor, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred near Trajan Elementary School when the dirt bike, carrying two juveniles, struck the right rear of a Toyota 4Runner that was turning into the school’s parking lot off Trajan Drive, according the initial California Highway Patrol report. Neither juvenile was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Both juveniles were ejected from the dirt bike and were transported to area hospitals with injuries described by CHP as possibly critical. Authorities later confirmed the driver of the dirt bike is 16 years old.
CHP said there were reports the dirt bike was being ridden recklessly prior to the collision. Investigators also said drugs or alcohol may have been a factor, and the 16-year-old driver is suspected of driving under the influence. CHP added the driver may have suffered facial fractures, though the full extent of the injuries was not immediately available.
In a statement provided after the crash, the San Juan Unified School District emphasized that the incident did not involve students or staff at the school and did not occur on campus.
“Trajan Elementary School students and staff were not involved in this accident, and it didn’t occur on school grounds,” the district said. “We’re not aware of any additional details or who might have been involved.”
CHP’s East Sacramento division confirmed the crash location was in front of Trajan Elementary School but reiterated that school operations were not impacted.

The incident remains under investigation by CHP. No additional information has been released regarding possible charges or the condition of the second juvenile involved.
