Folsom, Sacramento County respond to assist with Placer County incident

ROSEVILLE – One person has been killed, 2 others shot and a suspected shooter opening fire near a Roseville park Thursday afternoon. along Pleasant Grove Boulevard Thursday afternoon.

Multiple agencies from the region responded to aide in the incident, including multiple units from Folsom Police, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol. Placer County Sheriff, Roseville Police, Rocklin Police and others.

At this time few details being released on the victims or the gunman. Radio traffic during the active incident indicated that the suspect allegedly fired at law enforcement officers upon arrival and at least one officer was reportedly shot in the hand and chest.

During a 4 p.m. press conference, officials with the Roseville Police Department said a California Highway Patrol officer was shot around 12:30 p.m. near Mahany Park which originally prompted other law enforcement agencies to respond immediately as the suspect fled the scene

Roseville police then reported that as additonal officers arrived, the suspected gunman opened fire at them while contnuing to run away. The gunman then took two hostages before he eventually surrendered. Two civilians were shot, according to the briefing. One of them died at the scene, the second one was transported to a hospital with the serious of their injuries unknown.

A heavy police presence has remained in place into the afternoon as investigators work the area of Mahany Park near Pleasant Grove Boulevard as of 3:00 p.m.  According to a report by the Roseville Police Department, the area is now safe and there is no remaining community threat but many areas will remain closed to the public near Pleasant Grove Boulevard and Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard.

An earlier lockdown at Mahany Fitness Center and Martha Riley Community Library was lifted around 3 p.m., according to the department.  Staff, visitors and children in the nearby camps are reported as safe. Those in the camp were moved to Quail Glen Elementary School for pickup.

The fitness center and library will be closed for the rest of the day and authorities are recommending the public avoid the area of the investigation.
