New Member-focused Ace Pickleball Club plans to open by fall of 2025
Since the closure of Big Lots last year, it was unclear what would become of the large commercial space left vacant in Folsom. Now, that question has been answered: the 42,000-square-foot location will soon house a new indoor pickleball facility, scheduled to open this fall.
Ace Pickleball Club (APC), a rapidly expanding national franchise with a community-focused approach, announced plans Wednesday to open a new facility at 9522 Greenback Lane. The 42,000-square-foot club is expected to create 30 new jobs, feature 15 indoor courts, and cater to the growing local demand for pickleball. Members will be able to play at their convenience for a flat monthly fee.
“No more competing to reserve a spot or waiting in long lines for a chance to play – APC’s offering of open play all day, every day lets Members get their games in without the hassle of coordinating with others or any additional fees,” the company said in a press release.
In appreciation of the Folsom community, Ace Pickleball Club is offering the first month of membership free in the lead-up to its grand opening. Residents are encouraged to join the email list to be notified when the offer goes live.
The new Folsom location will be owned and operated by local entrepreneur and pickleball enthusiast Mukti Patel and his wife, Jyoti. Originally from Zambia, Patel moved to the United States at age 14 for his education. He retired in 2022 after a 32-year career as a certified public accountant. Now, Patel says he finds the greatest joy in his role as a grandparent — a privilege he cherishes, especially since his grandchildren are also pickleball fans.
Patel’s journey into pickleball began casually, playing with friends at a neighborhood home. It wasn’t long before he was hooked. He soon began playing regularly at local facilities, and his passion led him to compete in high-level amateur tournaments in Las Vegas and Sacramento, earning medals along the way.
“It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with pickleball,” said Patel. “What I love about the game is how incredibly social and enjoyable it is. Anyone can pick it up and enjoy it. Given that weather elements such as intense heat, cold, rain, and wind can negatively impact the overall experience of playing pickleball outdoors, I realized that to grow the sport, people needed a place where they could play year-round in a climate-controlled facility, anytime they wanted. I’m beyond excited to open this new club and offer that opportunity to the Folsom and surrounding communities.”
According to the announcement, Ace Pickleball Club emphasizes member experience with professional-grade, cushioned courts and a simplified membership model. Like a traditional gym, APC offers one flat monthly fee for unlimited access — no court reservations required.
Members will enjoy open play, clinics, club-organized tournaments, social events, ball machine reservations, and paddle demos. The club will also offer free introductory clinics for newcomers who want to learn the game in a supportive and low-pressure environment.
