This Saturday evening, the community will gather at Beals Point State Park for a heartfelt event in memory of Felicity Athena, a vibrant young girl whose life was tragically cut short in a jet ski accident at at Fernandina Beach in Florida last spring. The 5K Forever Sunset Run will take place on March 29, beginning at 5:30 p.m., with the run starting at 6:15 p.m.

Felicity Athena, who was just 12 years old, lost her life during a family spring break outing. Her memory lives on through the love of her family and friends, who are now dedicated to raising awareness about water safety. The event will not only celebrate Felicity’s spirit but also educate the community on how to stay safe around water.

“The pain of this loss is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. However, I have chosen to channel this grief into advocacy for our children and families, hoping to prevent others from experiencing this unimaginable heartache,” Cherry Sagun shared with Folsom Times. “In honoring my daughter’s memory, I strive to live as she would have wanted—showing kindness to others, cherishing animals, and staying active on land and water.”

The run will bring together families, friends, and supporters to remember Felicity and raise awareness. Representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard and California State Parks will be on-site, offering water safety education. Topics will include hypothermia awareness, proper safety equipment, self-rescue techniques, and emergency procedures.

A number of community organizations and businesses have rallied in support of the event. Sponsors include FOLFAN (Friends of Lakes Folsom and Natoma), Woofie’s El Dorado Hills, Bad Mobile, Sugar & Sunshine Smokehouse, Goode Athletics, and the Coffee & Kilometers Run Club. Their contributions ensure the event’s success while supporting the mission of water safety education.
