FOLSOM—Blues lovers, get ready: this Sunday, October 5, Historic Folsom will once again shake with the electrifying sounds of the Delta Wires Band as they return to Powerhouse Pub for the latest installment of the Powerhouse of Blues series. With their horn-driven sound, powerhouse harmonica, and high-energy performances, the Delta Wires promise an afternoon of unforgettable live music.
Formed out of the Oakland and San Francisco Bay Area, the Delta Wires have carved out a reputation as one of the most dynamic blues acts on the West Coast. Their accolades speak volumes: finalists at the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge, voted “Best Live Band” by readers of Oakland Magazine and East Bay Express, and inducted into the California Blues Hall of Fame in 2012.
Over the years, the Delta Wires have released eight albums, most recently “If Somebody Told Me…,” a record that has received glowing reviews and airplay across the globe. Their career has taken them from Italy’s renowned Umbria Jazz Festival to eight appearances at the Monterey Bay Blues Festival, as well as stages at the San Francisco Blues Festival, Sacramento Jazz Festival and Jubilee, and Redding Blues by the River Festival, among many others.
Along the way, they’ve shared stages with blues and rock greats including Van Morrison, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, Dr. John, Boz Scaggs, The Doobie Brothers, and Junior Wells. That pedigree, combined with their unique blend of horns and harmonica, has solidified the Delta Wires as one of California’s enduring blues institutions.
The band’s origins trace back to bandleader Ernie Pinata, who first formed the Delta Wires as a college project showcasing the evolution of the blues—from the raw Delta hollers of the Mississippi to the electric sounds of Chicago. Their early days playing Oakland clubs like Esther’s Orbit Room and Berkeley’s Mandrake’s quickly built a devoted following. Legendary moments included surprise sit-ins with Lowell Fulson, Freddie King, and Buddy Guy, experiences that fueled the band’s growth and cemented their authenticity.
Fans can experience that same authenticity and energy this Sunday when the Delta Wires take the Powerhouse Pub stage at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 and available online at www.powerhousepub.com or at the door. Powerhouse Pub continues to spotlight premier blues acts through its Powerhouse of Blues series.
