The Quiltmaker’s Gift opens at Folsom’s Sutter Street Theatre this weekend, bringing its musical charm to Sutter Street Theatre for the holidays. The show opens Saturday, Dec. 9.

A mysterious woman lives in the misty mountains, making beautiful quilts for the poor. Meanwhile, the greedy king is desperate to find happiness, assuming it will come from one of the many presents he has demanded from his subjects. When the woman refuses to give the king a quilt, she starts him on a journey of self-discovery that takes them both on an unexpected adventure.

The new show joins the popular Holiday in the Hills production on the Sutter Street Stage, keeping the cast and crew of Folsom’s community theatre busy and visitors entertained this season.

Holiday in the Hills is Sutter Street Theatre’s love letter to the Holiday Season. According to the theatre playbill, the story takes place in the late 1800’s right in Sutter Street Theatre where the residents of the town and surrounding areas have gotten together for a party to celebrate the season.

“A lot of research went into the actual people and places that were here in the late 1800’s, and everyone you see onstage was an actual resident or visitor to Folsom at that time of year,” notes Sutter Street Theatre’s Allen Schmeltz. “Seeing a performance of Holiday in the Hills will put you and your family in the holiday spirit or we’ll give your money back, guaranteed.”

Holiday in the Hills opens this Saturday, December 2 and will run through December 23. There will be weekly performances on Friday’s and Saturday’s at 7:30 p.m. as well as Sundays at 4:30 p.m. Due to the play’s popularity they are also hosting additional performances on December 14, 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m.
