Historic Folsom has welcomed another new culinary gem to its collection of local eateries. Bella Maci, a family-owned Italian-inspired restaurant, is now open at 807 Sutter Street, filling the cozy spot previously home to Sweet Dozen Corners dessert shop. More than just a new restaurant, Bella Maci is a labor of love brought to life by longtime local chef and restaurateur Brian Knadle, alongside his daughter Macy and her mother Brooke.
The restaurant’s name—Bella Maci—means “beautiful Macy,” a heartfelt tribute that reflects the family-centric vision behind the venture. Brian Knadle is no stranger to Folsom’s food scene. As the former owner and executive chef of Marly and Moo, and a former partner in Sutter Street Steakhouse, his name is synonymous with quality and creativity on the plate. But with Bella Maci, he set out to create something more intimate and personal.
“We wanted to build a place where people could gather, connect, and feel like they’re part of something special,” the family shared as they announced their opening. The announcement of Bella Maci’s opening sparked immediate attention from the local community and beyond.
One diner, Tanya Vittitoe, shared her glowing review after traveling from Chico just to experience the new spot. “Ohhhh my soooo delicious,” she posted. “The atmosphere is gorgeous and historical Folsom is a treat.” Another diner, Mary Pennington, commented, “You can definitely feel the love and energy that has been put into Bella Maci. Five star all the way around!”
And what’s cooking inside this welcoming new venue? The menu reflects the team’s attention to detail and passion for Italian flavors with a modern touch. From house-made meatballs with ricotta and parmesan to spring pea orecchiette with basil pesto and pine nuts, the starters and entrees strike a perfect balance between comforting and elevated.
Standout dishes include the Dungeness crab gluten-free penne with crème fraîche and chives, a rich strozzapreti with Mary’s chicken, mushrooms, and white wine cream, and a grilled filet mignon served with polenta and gorgonzola dolce. Lighter offerings include fresh arugula salad with fennel and pistachios, a baby kale Caesar with Marcona almonds, and a vibrant tuna carpaccio topped with lemon caper aioli.

Side offerings are plentiful, such as herb-roasted fingerlings, soft polenta, and asparagus with leeks and pancetta round out the dining options. Dessert lovers can indulge in choices like mascarpone cheesecake with balsamic strawberries, flourless chocolate torte, and traditional tiramisu. These are just a few of the many items on their menu.
The drink menu is equally curated, with specialty cocktails like a blood orange spritz, local craft beers from Red Bus and Solid Ground, and a thoughtful selection of wines from California and Italy. Highlights include Barbera from El Dorado County, Chianti from Tuscany, and Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough.
For those seeking a more casual experience, limited counter seating is available for walk-in guests, though reservations are highly recommended. The restaurant also welcomes inquiries about private dining and special occasions.
Bella Maci is now open Wednesday through Saturday from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m., and Sundays until 8:00 p.m. For reservations or more information, visit their website or call (916) 805-5746.
