Saturday is National Independent Bookstore Day, and one local shop is going all out to celebrate the cause. Ruby’s Books, located in the Folsom Historic District, is turning the final Saturday of April and the days leading up to it into a full-blown celebration of literature, community, and creativity.
Independent Bookstore Day honors the unique role independent bookstores play in communities across the country, and Ruby’s is marking the occasion with a weeklong build-up of giveaways, treasure hunts, and exclusive releases, all culminating in a jam-packed day of festivities on April 26.
Ruby’s has just launched a city-wide $50 Gift Card Hunt in the days leading up to Independent Bookstore Day. Each day through Sunday, April 25, one $50 gift card will be hidden somewhere around Folsom. Daily clues will be shared on the store’s Instagram account (@rubysfolsom), and lucky finders can claim their prize by tagging the shop online with “FOUND IT.” All cards must be redeemed in-store on April 26.
Another major highlight is the Audiobook Walk, encouraging readers to pop in their earbuds, listen to a Libro.fm audiobook, and take a stroll to the store. All participants will receive a free audiobook download. On the big day, guests can also search the store for the hidden Libro.fm Golden Ticket—a prize worth 12 free audiobooks.
Customers who spend $20 or more in-store during the celebration will receive raffle entries for themed book basket giveaways, with winners to be announced on Sunday, April 27. The more you shop, the better your odds of winning.
Ruby’s will also offer exclusive, limited-edition books and merchandise that are available only on Independent Bookstore Day—plus surprise merch drops throughout the day for those who arrive early.
As part of the weekend-long Read the Region Book Crawl from April 25–27, Ruby’s joins nine other Sacramento-area indie bookstores inviting guests to collect raffle entries by spending at least $10 at each stop. The more shops you visit, the more entries you earn toward a grand prize basket.
Participating bookstores include Pleasant Pheasant, Beer’s Books, Capital Books, Amatoria Fine Art Books, Crawford’s Books, A Seat at the Table Books, Underground Books, Wild Sisters Book Company, East Village Bookshop, and Ruby’s Books.
Whether you’re chasing exclusive titles, going on a gift card hunt, or just showing support for your favorite indie bookstore, Ruby’s promises a literary experience to remember. Full event details are available on the Ruby’s Books website and social media channels.
Ruby’s Books is located at 724 Sutter Street in Folsom and is a community-centered independent bookstore offering a carefully curated selection of new books across all genres, along with unique toys and gifts. The store strives to create a welcoming space where readers of all ages can discover and nurture their love for books. Visitors are always greeted by the friendly staff—including the store’s beloved namesake golden retriever, Ruby. For those who can’t stop by in person, the online shop is open 24/7 to keep the reading going.
