This Saturday, May 3, the streets and trails around Historic Folsom and beyond will come alive with the return of the much-anticipated Folsom Pedal Quest. This free community event, organized by Clipped In for Life, invites cyclists of all ages and skill levels to embark on self-guided journeys through the city’s extensive network of paved bike paths. The event also serves as the official kickoff to Folsom Bike Month, which aligns with the broader “May is Bike Month” campaign celebrated across the Sacramento region.

Check-in for the event begins at 9:00 a.m. in front of the historic train depot at 200 Wool Street in Historic Folsom. Riders will receive a bike plate and a printed guide with route options designed to showcase the very best of Folsom’s award-winning trail system.

Choose Your Own Adventure on Two Wheels

Folsom Pedal Quest offers eight uniquely designed routes that vary in length from a quick 1.5-mile family loop to a more endurance-testing 30-mile trek for experienced cyclists. These self-guided routes start and finish in the heart of Historic Folsom and are marked with clearly painted arrows on the pavement for easy navigation. The purpose of the event isn’t to race, but to explore—each route encourages participants to experience different parts of the city, its natural beauty, and the expansive connectivity of Folsom’s cycling infrastructure.

Whether it’s the short and scenic Rainbow Bridge Loop, the lake-hugging 11.5-mile Lake Natoma Loop, or the full 30-mile Folsom Big Loop, riders can go at their own pace and ride as many loops as they’d like. Along each route, rest stops will offer water and a fun bonus: a collectible Pedal Quest sticker. For every distinct color sticker collected, riders earn a raffle ticket, redeemable at the check-in tent before 1:00 p.m.

Balance Bike Bash: Big Fun for the Littlest Riders

While older cyclists explore the trails, Folsom’s youngest riders can get in on the fun with the Balance Bike Bash. Designed for kids ages 3 to 6, this miniature course transforms a closed-off stretch of Sutter Street into an exciting biking playground. Children can navigate through a bubble wrap “rock garden,” mini rumble strips, and a pool noodle wall in timed races that begin every 30 minutes starting at 9:30 a.m.

Each session is limited to 25 riders to ensure safety and engagement. Registration is free, and helmets are required for all participants. For those who don’t have a bike, demo Strider bikes and helmets will be available to borrow on a limited basis.

A Citywide Collaboration to Celebrate Cycling

Folsom Pedal Quest is a true community partnership. It’s produced by Clipped In for Life, a nonprofit dedicated to using cycling as a tool to inspire healthy lifestyles and inclusive communities. The event is supported by the City of Folsom, Visit Folsom, the Folsom Historic District Association, and California State Parks. Together, these partners aim to highlight cycling as not only a form of recreation, but a sustainable and accessible way to experience the city.

Participation in this year’s Pedal Quest is capped at 500 riders, and early registration is strongly encouraged. More information, including route maps and registration details, is available at www.clippedinforlife.org/our-races/folsom-pedal-quest.
