Arrest follows discovery of digital Child Sexual Abuse Material
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a 32-year-old registered sex offender in El Dorado County after detectives uncovered digital evidence of child sexual abuse material during a probation check.
According to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, the arrest took place in the community of Lotus when patrol deputies responded to a welfare check at a residence that the suspect was occupying. At the scene, deputies contacted Michael D’Andrea and determined he was a registered violent sex offender based on prior convictions in another state. D’Andrea was also on active felony probation out of Placer County, according to the department’s report
Deputies reported that D’Andrea refused to provide access to his cell phone, which constituted a violation of his probation terms. The device was turned over to detectives with the department’s High Tech Crimes Unit (HTCU), who were able to access it and reportedly found images and videos of juveniles.
Following the investigation, D’Andrea was arrested and booked into the El Dorado County Jail on suspicion of violating Penal Code sections 311.11(a) and 311.11(b), related to possession of child sexual abuse material. His bail was set at $400,000.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information regarding suspected child exploitation to contact the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at www.missingkids.org or reach out to the Sheriff’s Office directly.
