The ‘fur’ is expected to fly as its Team Liberty versus Team Blitz all for a great cause
FOLSOM, Calif. — Folsom’s police officers and firefighters are teaming up—and facing off—for a good cause next month as Vitalant’s annual “Battle of the Badges” Blood Drive returns Tuesday, June 4. The friendly competition between first responders encourages the public to donate blood and support lifesaving efforts in the community.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Folsom Community Center, 52 Natoma Street. Sponsored by the Folsom Police Department’s “Team Liberty” and the Folsom Fire Department’s “Team Blitz,” the drive is open to all eligible blood donors.
“We are excited to team up—and compete—with Folsom Fire for this year’s Battle of the Badges Blood Drive,” said Folsom Police Chief Rick Hillman. “It’s a friendly rivalry, but the real winners are the community members who rely on these lifesaving donations. We encourage everyone to come out, donate a pint, and vote for Team Liberty to bring home the trophy once again this year.”
All participants will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite department pooch, meaning Blitz or Liberty and every donor will receive a free T-shirt, a $10 gift card redeemable online through Vitalant’s donor rewards program, and automatic entry into a drawing for one of two $10,000 gift cards.
“Making a life-saving blood donation is a great way to support our community and our first responders,” said Kristin Conner, Vitalant communications manager. “Every donation can help up to three patients in need—and a little friendly rivalry makes it more fun.”
“At Folsom Fire, saving lives is our job, whether it’s on an incident or donating blood,” added Folsom Fire Chief Ken Cusano, who will be campaigning for Team Blitz. “This friendly competition is all about coming together for a greater cause. We’re proud to roll up our sleeves and invite our community to do the same. Every drop counts.”
Appointments are encouraged, though walk-ins will be accepted as space allows. To schedule a donation, visit donors.vitalant.org and use blood drive code 100560023, or call 877-258-4825.
Donors must be in good health, at least 16 years old (with parental consent for minors), and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. There is no upper age limit to donate. Donors are advised to eat a hearty meal, stay well-hydrated, and bring valid photo identification. The full process takes about one hour, with the donation itself lasting 5 to 7 minutes.
Vitalant is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit blood and biotherapies healthcare organizations, supporting hospitals and patients across the U.S. with a safe blood supply, specialized laboratory services, transfusion medicine expertise, and innovative research.
