“Cowboy Boots & Fair Roots” theme brings music, motorsports, animals and more to Memorial Day weekend

The smell of kettle corn, the sound of laughter, and the sight of spinning carnival rides are all signs that the Sacramento County Fair is back—and it’s bigger and better than ever. Running Thursday, May 22 through Monday, May 26, the 2025 Sacramento County Fair returns to Cal Expo with five full days of excitement, entertainment, and community celebration under this year’s theme, “Cowboy Boots & Fair Roots.”

More than 100,000 guests are expected to attend the annual event over Memorial Day weekend, ready to enjoy a blend of nostalgic traditions and thrilling new attractions. From live music and arena shows to barnyard animals, carnival rides, and irresistible fair food, this year’s fair promises something for everyone.

At the heart of the fair’s entertainment lineup are its adrenaline-pumping Grandstand Events, each offering a unique spectacle. Things rev up on Friday, May 23 with the Hot Rod & Smoker Truck Pulls, where massive trucks test their strength and horsepower in a competition that rattles the dirt. The action starts at 7 p.m., with gates opening at 6.

On Saturday, May 24, the arena transforms into a classic western showdown with the Stars and Stripes Rodeo, featuring fearless riders, bucking broncos, and fast-paced bull riding. The gates again open at 6 p.m., and the rodeo kicks off at 7.

Sunday, May 25 brings the rhythm and energy of El Gran Bailazo, a high-energy celebration of regional Mexican music. The gates open at 3 p.m. and the live music starts at 4, setting the tone for a cultural celebration that’s sure to keep crowds dancing well into the evening.

The fair closes on a high-octane note with the return of the Destruction Derby on Monday, May 26, as fearless drivers crash and collide in a battle of endurance and strategy. Gates open at 1 p.m., and the engines roar at 2.

Live music takes center stage throughout the fair, and this year’s 2025 Main Stage Acts offer an outstanding lineup of nightly entertainment. The concert series begins Thursday, May 22 with a performance by Eric “EQ” Young, whose soulful R&B grooves will set the tone for the fair’s festive atmosphere. On Friday, May 23, Red Rocker Revisited delivers a high-energy tribute to classic rock icons that’s sure to thrill longtime fans.

Saturday, May 24 brings HipNosis to the stage, known for their dynamic blend of musical genres and crowd-moving performances. On Sunday, May 25, Maya Latin Tribute Band brings the party with vibrant rhythms and a celebration of Latin music’s rich cultural influence. The music wraps up on Monday, May 26 with Gunpowder & Lace, delivering a spirited, country-infused performance that’s the perfect sendoff to five days of fun.

In addition to the nightly concerts, fairgoers can enjoy a strong slate of 2025 performers featured daily. The spellbinding illusions of Murray and Teresa will keep crowds mesmerized with their masterful magic. The Drumheads fill the air with high-energy percussion and show-stopping rhythm, while Tina Marie – Hypnotist delivers comedy, mystery, and audience participation that keeps guests laughing and guessing. The Wilder Show rounds out the daily stage entertainment with a mix of stunts, comedy, and wild antics that keep families entertained from morning to night.

For families with kids, the Sacramento County Fair is packed with hands-on activities and educational experiences. Children can cheer on their favorite swine at the All-Alaskan Racing Pigs, an event that delivers pint-sized piggy action and plenty of laughs. At the Petting Farm, kids can interact with gentle animals including goats, bunnies, and ponies, learning about farm life in a safe, friendly environment.

Young animal lovers will also be amazed by Live Shark Encounters, where visitors can learn about ocean predators while seeing them up close. Over at Brad’s World Reptiles, kids can meet and touch snakes, lizards, and other fascinating reptiles. The fair also features a Live Stingray Encounter, offering an unforgettable opportunity to interact with these graceful aquatic creatures.

The fair’s agricultural education continues with Farm Garden in a Wheelbarrow, an interactive learning program for K–6 students. Visitors can also indulge in beloved fair foods—from corn dogs and funnel cakes to deep-fried novelties and giant turkey legs—while exploring artisan booths, shopping vendors, and livestock displays.

The Sacramento County Fair is also a celebration of community pride and achievement. Each year, more than 5,000 Sacramento-area residents participate in livestock shows and competitive exhibits, showcasing everything from handmade quilts and photography to baked goods and prized animals. Meanwhile, nearly 10,000 local school children take part in educational tours during the week, reinforcing the fair’s commitment to youth enrichment and agriculture.

General admission is $12 for adults and $10 for youth ages 12 to 17, with free admission for children under 12. Grandstand Events are $15 and must be purchased in addition to fair admission. Carnival wristbands are available at a pre-sale price of $35, though they do not include general admission. All ticket prices include fees.
