Lake Tahoe is a popular destination for boating and summer recreation but is also known for unpredictable weather patterns and cold water temperatures, both of which can increase the danger during emergencies on the lake. Saturday afternoon winds between 40-45 miles per hour were reported at the lake as precipitation reportedly moved through the area.

Authorities have not released whether life jackets were in use by those on board at the time of the incident. In addition to the boat involved in the incident, the weather conditions caused excessive damage to multiple boats at various marina’s on the lake Saturday, tossing them into each other, upon docks and upside down, destroying many.

This remains an active and ongoing operation with the El Dorado County Sheriffs Office, Lake Tahoe Police and the U.S. Coast Guard.
