Firefighters managed to contain a fast-moving fire that erupted on the Fourth of July in a residential neighborhood off Kerr Court, after a tree fire spread under windy and threatened homes Friday night.
The fire was reported at approximately 9:05 p.m., prompting an initial response from a single engine company with Folsom Fire Department. However, after the first reports indicated the flames posed an immediate threat to three nearby structures, Battalion Chief W. Nick Lawlor requested additional resources while still en route.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire had already extended from a burning tree to a nearby wooden fence and an outbuilding. High winds helped fuel the blaze, which began to impinge on one of the homes. Crews deployed fire hoses from both Kerr Court and Flower Drive and immediately conducted searches of the threatened residences, clearing all occupants safely.

Thanks to a coordinated response involving four engine companies, one truck company, and two command units—comprising a total of 22 personnel—firefighters contained the blaze in just 12 minutes. The fire destroyed the fence and the outbuilding, and caused minor damage to one home. Fire personnel confirmed that the home was safe for the residents to return.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, fireworks are suspected to be the likely source, according to a media release from the Folsom Fire Department. Officials have not yet determined whether the suspected fireworks were legal or illegal. No injuries were reported.
