Twin Lakes Food Bank looks to build new facility and meet growing its regional demand

Last night, surrounded by community leaders, volunteers, staff and board members, Twin Lakes Food Bank officially announced the launch of a three-year, $3.1 million capital campaign titled Building Hope. The effort aims to culminate in the construction of a new facility and the expansion of operations to better serve the growing needs in Folsom, El Dorado Hills, and Granite Bay.

The event featured messages from Folsom Mayor Sarah Aquino and Building Committee Chair Ian Cornell. Ron Perry and Samantha Davidson from the Board of Directors also addressed the crowd. Executive Director Lisa Tuter concluded the evening with an inspiring message about the future of the food bank. Guests enjoyed appetizers donated by Riley’s on Sutter, Sutter Street Taqueria, Visconti’s Ristorante, and Dos Coyotes, while Food Bank Board members offered private tours of the new site.

Founded by local church leaders in 1986, the food bank has operated out of a renovated duplex on Montrose Drive since 1996. Over nearly three decades, community need has nearly tripled, with the organization now serving more than 34,000 people each year. With Folsom’s continued growth—including over 650 new affordable housing units—demand is expected to rise.

“Building a larger food bank is crucial to fulfilling our mission,” said Executive Director Lisa Tuter. “That is why we are launching this capital campaign to ensure that when our hungry neighbors come to the food bank, we will be equipped to serve them and not be forced to turn them away empty-handed.”

Tuter emphasized gratitude for the food bank’s wide base of support, including 16 local churches, nearly 1,700 individual donors, over 150 local businesses, and 12 nonprofit organizations. The $3.1 million campaign will fund a new facility behind Mt. Olive Lutheran Church on Montrose Drive, doubling the food bank’s footprint and enabling it to serve at least 60,000 people annually.

The new space will allow for extended distribution hours to better accommodate the working poor and expand storage capacity from 600,000 pounds to over one million pounds.
