EL DORADO HILLS — A fast response by multiple agencies made quick work of a vegetation fire that broke out late Monday morning near Bass Lake Road and U.S. Route 50 in El Dorado Hills. The blaze, known as the Bass Fire, was first reported around 11:38 a.m. Tuesday, with smoke clearly visible on ALERT California cameras that were monitoring the area.

Initial reports indicated the fire was burning in dry grass with a moderate rate of spread and posed a threat to nearby structures. Within minutes, engines from El Dorado Hills Fire and CAL FIRE’s Amador–El Dorado Unit were dispatched to the scene. Aircraft support included tankers and helicopters were also prompted for response.

As of 11:46 a.m., fire officials reported the blaze had grown to 1 acre but was burning at a slow rate of spread. By 12:06 p.m., the fire had expanded to 3 acres, but crews were making strong progress, according to air attack units. By 12:13 p.m., forward progress had been fully stopped according to incident command and all incoming resources were canceled.

No homes were damaged, and no injuries were reported. The fire remained in open grass and oak vegetation, and the rapid containment prevented the need for any evacuations.

The fire was located east of El Dorado Hills Boulevard, above the grade on Highway 50 and was accessible off the Bass Lake Road, area, an area that is open land but is not far from expanding residential neighborhoods, which always acts as a reminder of the importance of defensible space
