A Citrus Heights man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with the June 28 death of a Fair Oaks resident following an altercation outside a bar in Folsom’s Historic District.

On Wednesday, the Folsom Police Department released details on the arrest of 43-year-old Dylan Pierce, who investigators allege was the aggressor in a physical confrontation that occurred on the outdoor patio of City Slickers, a bar located in the 700 block of Gold Lake Drive. The incident resulted in the death of 63-year-old James Douglas Caddy.

Police were originally dispatched to the scene around 3:40 p.m. on June 28 for a report of a medical emergency. Officers found Caddy unresponsive, and despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Folsom Police Department, detectives assumed the investigation and, through video surveillance and witness statements, determined that a physical altercation had occurred during an event being held at the bar. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office then classified Caddy’s death as a homicide.

After identifying Pierce as the suspect, detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody early Wednesday morning outside his Citrus Heights residence. As of Wednesday afternoon, Sacramento County Main Jail show he was released on bail.

“The Folsom Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of our community and holding individuals accountable for acts of violence,” the department said in a statement.

City Slickers had reportedly been hosting a benefit event that day for an employee recovering from a motorcycle crash. The business has not publicly commented on the incident during the investigation.
