A Folsom neighborhood was the site of heavy police activity Saturday morning when a stabbing suspect remained barricaded in a home for more than seven hours.

At approximately 1:30 am Saturday, Folsom Police initially responded to a residence located near the intersection of Duchow Way and Glenn Drive where the suspect was located. According to Commander Andrew Bates of the Folsom Police Department, the suspect allegedly stabbed his father, who has been receiving treatment for multiple wounds at a local hospital and is expected to survive.

According to Bates, Folsom SWAT responded to the scene, surrounding the home and officers attempted to talk the suspect out of the home in what became a lengthy standoff. The suspect is an adult male, he was reportedly armed with a machete and continued to refuse to cooperate with officers as of early Saturday morning. Radio traffic indicated that the suspect said he “needed to think about it,” and requested cigarettes Saturday morning. 

A heavy police presence remains in the area with some roadway closures near the intersection Saturday morning. Residents are advised to stay away from the area at this time as it continues to be an active situation. 

Update 8:50am: Officers can see suspect walking about the home, visible in a bedroom near a bathroom door.

Update 9:03 am: Officer have lost visual of suspect at this time.

Update 9:10 am: Police negotiators have lost phone contact with the suspect, are now attempting to continue communications through police loudspeaker.

Update 9:20 am: Suspect visible, has picked up a airsoft rifle and began shooting it.

Update 9:23 am: Officers have deployed police K9’s and moved in to detain suspect.

Update 9:24 am: Suspect has been detained by officers who moved into the home with K9 deployment.

The suspect has been identified as Joseph Marshall Jed, 40, of Folsom. According to Sacramento County Jail booking records he remains in custody without eligibility for bail. Initial charges he faces include attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Jed is schedule to appear in court on Jan. 3.
