The “Dog Days,”are usually known to be at the tail end of summer but at Sacramento County’s Bradshaw Animal Shelter, it seems the arrival of the new year has become a whole new form of “Dog Days,” as he shelter is experiencing overcrowding with an abundance of dogs.
In an effort to gain vacancy at the facility, operate at a normal level and most importantly, find homes for all of their four legged residents, the shelter has announced it is waiving adoption fees through January 13.
As of Monday morning Bradshaw Animal Shelter reported they had 251 combined dogs and puppies currently in its facility. The facility is designed to accommodate 150 dogs.
Annette Bedsworth, who is the director of the Shelter, is hoping the community can help them find homes for all of their adoptable dogs. Those who are considering adding a pet for the new year, shelter staff hope they will consider rescuing a pup in need as an option.
“We are committed to helping every adoptable dog find the happy home that they deserve, and we need the community’s help to be able to fulfill that promise,” said Bedsworth.
According to the shelter’s announcement, every dog that gets adopted prior to Jan. 13 will be done free of fees. The animals will also be spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. Additionally, the new owners in Sacramento County will receive a 1-year license, free of charge.
The Bradshaw Animal Shelter is located at 3839 Bradshaw Road. and is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m.
