Learn about rebates, careers, and how to join the Clean PowerCity® movement
RANCHO CORDOVA -Local residents will soon have a chance to connect directly with Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) representatives as the utility hosts two “Meet SMUD” events this month. The free community events are designed to provide information about clean energy, rebates, assistance programs, and career opportunities, while giving customers a chance to ask questions face-to-face with energy specialists.
The first “Meet SMUD” will take place Tuesday, September 23, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center, 450 W. El Camino in Sacramento. The second will follow on Thursday, September 25, also from 5 to 6:30 p.m., at the Folsom Cordova Community Partnership, 10665 Coloma Road, Suite 200, in Rancho Cordova.
Attendees will learn about SMUD’s ambitious 2030 Clean Energy Vision and explore a variety of Residential Assistance programs designed to reduce energy costs. These include the Energy Assistance Program Rate (EAPR), Medical Equipment Discount, and Energy Saver Bundles. Energy specialists will be on hand for one-on-one consultations, offering customized guidance on cutting utility bills and making homes more energy efficient.
The events will also highlight SMUD’s Supplier Education and Economic Development (SEED) program, which helps small businesses access clean energy opportunities, as well as ways to join the Clean PowerCity® movement. The first 100 attendees at each location will receive a free SMUD swag bag filled with energy-saving tools and educational materials.
“SMUD is committed to meeting people where they are, providing access to a wide range of resources and support from across our community,” said SMUD Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Paul Lau. “As we charge forward toward a zero-carbon future, we want everyone in our community to feel empowered to participate in this clean energy transition and benefit from the opportunities it brings.”
SMUD leadership will also be present at each event. Board President Gregg Fishman will attend the Gardenland gathering, while Board Member Brandon Rose will participate in the Rancho Cordova event.
For more than 75 years, SMUD has been Sacramento County’s community-owned, not-for-profit electric service provider. Today, it is the nation’s sixth-largest publicly owned utility and a recognized industry leader in renewable energy and energy efficiency programs. In 2023, SMUD’s power supply was 78 percent carbon-free, with a goal of achieving zero-carbon electricity production by 2030. Rates remain among the lowest in California, averaging more than 50 percent below those of neighboring investor-owned utilities.
