FOLSOM – Get ready for wagging tails, soggy tennis balls, and plenty of playful splashes — Folsom’s four-legged residents are about to take over the pool. The City of Folsom’s 21st annual Bark ‘n’ Splash Bash returns to the Steve Miklos Aquatic Center this Saturday, September 28, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., giving dogs their own end-of-summer pool party before the facility closes for its annual cleaning.

For one afternoon only, the aquatic center trades swim lessons for dog paddles. Big or small, fluffy or sleek, hundreds of pooches are expected to leap in, race across the pool, chase after toys, or just wade at the shallow end of the sloped entry. Some adventurous pups may even tackle the slide, while others prefer to frolic alongside their new four-legged friends. Spectators on deck can count on getting a good soaking when the dogs come out for a shake.

The event is dogs-only in the pool, but human owners get to enjoy the show from the sidelines. Lifeguards remain on duty in case any swimmer needs a helping hand — or paw — and many of the smaller breeds sport brightly colored life vests as they join in on the fun.

The Bark ‘n’ Splash tradition began more than two decades ago, a playful sendoff marking the time when city staff prepare to drain the pool for deep cleaning. Over the years, it has grown into one of Folsom’s quirkiest and most beloved seasonal events, bringing together the community’s dog lovers for a shared afternoon of laughter and wet fur.

Admission is $15 per dog, payable at the gate. All dogs must be licensed and vaccinated for rabies, with written proof shown at check-in. Licensing can be completed on-site if needed. All pets must arrive leashed — but once they’re inside, it’s time to unleash the fun.

Adding to the festivities, pet-related vendors will be on site offering treats, toys, and tips. It’s a setting where dogs get to be dogs, owners share in the joy, and the aquatic center becomes a playground unlike any other.
