FOLSOM — The Folsom Walmart Supercenter on Riley Street marked a new chapter Friday morning as it officially unveiled its remodeled and expanded store with a grand reopening celebration that brought together local leaders, community organizations, and residents for a ribbon cutting and check presentation ceremony.

Mayor Sarah Aquino, members of the Folsom City Council, Walmart associates, and local nonprofit representatives gathered to celebrate the store’s transformation, which reflects a major investment in both the local economy and community partnerships.

To further illustrate Walmart’s commitment to helping others live better in the communities it serves, Store Manager Zobair Hassan and several associates presented $8,600 in grants to local nonprofit organizations.

The donations included $2,500 to The Salvation Army to support its family assistance, food, and emergency relief programs; $1,500 to the Prostate and Breast Cancer Foundation for its ongoing cancer prevention and education efforts; $1,500 to Althea Canines to assist with the training of service dogs for veterans and individuals with disabilities; $1,100 to the Folsom Police Foundation to help fund public safety and community outreach initiatives; $1,000 to the Teams and Dreams Foundation Inc. to expand youth sports and mentorship opportunities; and $1,000 to NCBA Youth Thrive to further its work in academic support, leadership development, and workforce readiness for young people.

Each organization expressed appreciation for Walmart’s continued partnership and community support, noting that the company’s local giving helps sustain vital programs that make a measurable impact across the region.

In a statement, Walmart said the newly remodeled store “illustrates the company’s commitment to providing California customers with the best assortment, prices, and overall shopping experience.” The celebration, complete with an energetic DJ, vendor booths, and community engagement activities, underscored the store’s renewed investment in Folsom both as a retailer and community partner.

A highlight of the morning included the unveiling of a colorful, community-inspired mural inside the store. The artwork, designed to celebrate Folsom’s character and heritage, features local landmarks, outdoor recreation, and the city’s deep sense of hometown pride. Created in partnership with Walmart’s community art initiative, the mural serves as a lasting tribute to the people and places that make Folsom unique.

The remodel reflects Walmart’s latest “Store of the Future” design, which focuses on enhancing convenience, accessibility, and technology-driven service. The store now features a 3,500-square-foot addition on the southwest side dedicated to online grocery shopping and pickup, supporting the company’s rapidly growing e-commerce demand.

Additional improvements include a reconfigured parking area with more customer pickup and accessible spaces, making it easier for shoppers using online order pickup, delivery drivers, and in-store customers to all navigate the lot simultaneously.

Inside, nearly every department has been refreshed. Shoppers will notice an upgraded and more efficient checkout area, improved pickup and delivery systems, a redesigned pharmacy, an expanded deli and produce department, and a new grab-and-go section for quick convenience items. Walmart has also expanded its apparel section and introduced more community-focused food and merchandise offerings tailored to local preferences.

Hassan welcomed guests and city leaders as the ribbon was cut, marking the start of a new era for the Folsom Supercenter. The remodel, he said, represents Walmart’s continued focus on innovation and its long-standing partnership with the community it serves.

With the upgrades complete, the Folsom Supercenter stands as one of the company’s most modern retail locations in the region—blending digital convenience with an in-store experience designed around customer service, efficiency, and community connection. The project also reinforces Walmart’s role as one of Folsom’s largest employers and a consistent supporter of local causes through charitable giving and volunteerism.
