FOLSOM — The closure of Iron Point Road between East Bidwell Street and Cavitt Drive will remain in effect longer than planned, city officials announced Thursday, as this week’s storm has delayed progress on the city’s ongoing water pipeline installation.

According to the Folsom Police Department, the closure—originally scheduled to end November 7—will now remain in place through Saturday, November 8. Iron Point Road is expected to reopen to traffic on the morning of Sunday, November 9, once crews complete the necessary work and ensure the roadway is safe for travel.

The extended closure affects one of Folsom’s busiest corridors and is part of the City of Folsom’s Water Infrastructure Project, a major investment aimed at strengthening and modernizing the city’s water delivery system. The work involves installation of a new 24-inch water pipeline designed to improve reliability and provide additional service capacity to meet the city’s long-term water supply needs.

The project, which runs from East Bidwell Street north toward the city’s Water Treatment Plant on Natoma Street, is part of a multi-phase infrastructure plan that also supports the growing Folsom Plan Area south of Highway 50. The project is funded by Community Facilities District No. 18 bonding proceeds, with no costs passed to neighborhoods north of the highway.

Drivers are urged to continue using Broadstone Parkway and Cavitt Drive as detour routes and to allow extra time for travel through the area while crews complete the work.
