Arraignment continued to April 20 for suspected shooter who also made threats against State Capital
ROSEVILLE – The Placer County District Attorney’s Office filed a criminal complaint against 30-year-old Jackson A. Pinney from San Leandro for charges of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, and shooting at an occupied building, among other charges as it relates to a local Roseville Kaiser shooting that occurred on April 12, 2023.
Specifically, it is alleged the defendant attempted to murder an individual at a local business before driving over to the Women’s and Children’s Center at the Roseville Kaiser. The complaint also alleges that Pinney shot from his motor vehicle into a building with people inside. The complaint also includes a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon, and special allegations stating the offense is a serious as well as a violent felony.
This arrest was made by the City of Roseville, California Police Department, supported by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, after a day long search across the Sacramento region by multiple responding agencies.
The defendant appeared in court and the Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent the defendant. The defendant did not enter a plea and the arraignment was continued to April 20, 2023, at 8:30 a.m. in Department 20. The defendant will be held at the Placer County jail without bail.
In addition to the Placer County charges, Pinney is also suspected of making threats against the California State Capitol that forced an evacuation last Thursday.
Pinney was taken into custody last Thursday just after 4 p.m. near the intersection of Auburn-Folsom Road and Douglas Boulevard n Granite Bay. He was booked into the Placer County Jail at that time on charges of attempted homicide, assault with a firearm, shooting from a moving vehicle, shooting at an inhabited dwelling and possession of a firearm by a felon.
